Not much new to be learned but a good article on 'Nine things to know about Eichel'

http://www.espn.co.uk/blog/craig-custance/insider/post?id=6072

TBH this pissed me off

“Everybody has thought it’s a foregone conclusion that you’re one-and-done. In your mind, you might be getting caught up in that. You need to live your life,” Quinn said. “You’re the one, when Buffalo loses six in a row, who has to answer all the questions.”

Don't get it into the kid's head that he's expected to carry the team this year, and that he's expected to make it a playoff contender. Almost every Sabre's fan I know realizes next year for what it is, and for Quinn to tell Eichel this is kinda a selfish move in an attempt to manipulate him IMO.

otoh, you can see his Dad is the exact opposite and is doing what he should be

Before playing against the likes of Evgeni Malkin and Ilya Kovalchuk in a game versus Russia in the worlds, Eichel received a text from his dad with encouragement.

The message was simple: Don’t be intimidated by the pros. This is what you want, and eventually you’ll be playing them each night.

Completely agree.

After listening to Quinn's interview on WGR in April, I'm not worried about his comments in the ESPN article. I think he's playing devil's advocate, nothing more. He said Eichel is ready for the pros and would drive him to Buffalo himself if Eichel decides he wants to go.

There'll be no more hanging around with an avatar depicting a fetus with a 1" limp johnson for this Sabres fan. All you screen doors out there, beware.

Wut?

Can't believe I never saw that avatar -- can you post it for old times' sake?

Director of Central Scouting, said his group found "no distinctive line" between McDavid and Eichel.

"(But) we have to make one No. 1 and the other No. 2," Marr said. "But I think their production will be similar and their results will be similar. The difference will be that one will beat the other to win a Stanley Cup."

I started using it as an avatar a couple years or so ago when Chz said she'd post naked pictures of herself when someone else did. I guess it wasn't impressive enough to get her to follow through.

The difference between Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=771758

"The gap between Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, first and second respectively on NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of the top North American skaters eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft, is slim.

It's the gap between the projected top two picks of the 2015 draft, which will be held at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., on June 26-27, and the rest of the field that is a bit wider."

On jersey numbers:

Eichel would not wear No. 9 in Buffalo like he did in college, because that number is taken by Evander Kane. He has declined to say what he would wear but the Sabres are believed to have brought the topic up to him when they interviewed him at last month’s NHL Scouting Combine in HarborCenter.

Questions are when can we order Eichel jerseys and how fast can we order them before being "sold out?" I've yet to purchase a jersey w/ a players name on the back. Have always gone w/ uniform only.  Eichel will be my first w/ a name on the back. I am very excited!

Interesting statement by Eichel in the Boston Herald:

“If I’m signing, it’s not to leave school and go play major junior,” he said. “If I sign, it’s to play in the NHL the whole year. That’s the only way I’ll sign. And Buffalo has already explained to me that that would be the case.”

Sweet! Appreciate the link! Who on this board is ordering an Eichel jersey once it's official? 50+ of his family and friends are headed to the draft. Eichel has to be excited Buffalo is the team taking him.

Read the article this morning. Buffalo played it very well by guaranteeing him he'll be in the NHL for the entire season. Now just have to wait on his decision to play for the Sabres or return to college. When Scouts, one being from the Boston area, say he can already play on any top 2 line in the NHL, that has to be reason enough to leave college.

2nd liner? That's the best he can do? Looks like Eichel is overrated.

I didn't want to go there but, yeah, he's got bust written all over him.

GO SABRES!!!

We are talking Buffalo sports.... Ha ha

Wait, it's now Pegula sports! No worries, fellas.

please explain the basis for your opinion, I am interested

The Boston Herald article linked above that cites the two Bruin scouts who said he could play "on an NHL 2nd line..." Sorry, but I thought Eichel was a 1st line center.

So, that article and my outgrown sense of sarcasm informs my opinion that he is a bust waiting to happen.

I just assume people know my infatuation with Eichel goes back to last September's prospect game in Buffalo and have read all my posts about him since so I take for granted that everyone would just get my sarcasm.

Can't wait to see how it all shakes out, too. I like everything about this kid.

GO SABRES!!!
