Doohicksie Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 where is that coming from ? He's under contract until then, but the RWs can certainly let him talk if he doesn't want to stay there I think they are looking at keeping him there. They haven't said anything to the contrary.
X. Benedict Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Would the league allow it? There was just a league okay last week even for fired coaches under contract. Lebrun http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/35839/teams-can-seek-draft-pick-compensation-for-fired-coaches-gms-executives
shrader Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 There was just a league okay last week even for fired coaches under contract. Lebrun http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/35839/teams-can-seek-draft-pick-compensation-for-fired-coaches-gms-executives The wording throws me off. For some reason, when I see the word compensation it doesn't immediately lead me to thinking about trades. It sounds like something determined by a third party. But anyway, if they can go that route, I really wonder why another team would do it. If Detroit starts making that offer, you know Babcock isn't staying there. Just wait the few days until he is free. Babcock's personal preferences about where he'll be next year are probably far more developed than the typical player approaching UFA status.
Hoss Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 (edited) There was just a league okay last week even for fired coaches under contract. Lebrun http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/35839/teams-can-seek-draft-pick-compensation-for-fired-coaches-gms-executives This is for fired coaches under contract beyond this offseason, but I can't imagine it would be much different if they let him move on while still under contract for a bit longer. The Red Wings themselves would have to pursue the compensation and can negotiate with the team that signs him.My understanding is that a third party only gets involved if the two teams can't come to an agreement. drnkirishone Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 coaches contracts expire the same time as players?
shrader Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 coaches contracts expire the same time as players? July 1 is new year's day on the NHL calendar. I'd imagine that anyone under a contract with the organization would have the same expiration date.
Stoner Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 July 1 is new year's day on the NHL calendar. I'd imagine that anyone under a contract with the organization would have the same expiration date. Doug Allen too? Wow, I've got to get to work here.
dudacek Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Doug Allen too? Wow, I've got to get to work here. We can host a Sabrespace sing-off. Send in your audition tapes now!
TrueBlueGED Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Doug Allen too? Wow, I've got to get to work here. If you get Doug Allen fired, I will find you...
shrader Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Doug Allen too? Wow, I've got to get to work here. I'd imagine "anthem singer" is not a contracted position.
Doohicksie Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 I'd imagine "anthem singer" is not a contracted position. Why not?
shrader Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Why not? Ok, a different kind of contract. He probably gets a per appearance contract of some sort as opposed to one for daily work. So what I'm talking about is the typical front office staff, coaches, GMs, hockey ops people, etc...
Taro T Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Ok, a different kind of contract. He probably gets a per appearance contract of some sort as opposed to one for daily work. So what I'm talking about is the typical front office staff, coaches, GMs, hockey ops people, etc... That's how it worked when he started. (Small per game stipend plus game tix.) Would expect it to still be that way.
Doohicksie Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Since he is the regular singer, I would imagine he has a standing contract stating what his compensation is, how many/which dates he will sing, etc., that gets updated annually.
tom webster Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 That's how it worked when he started. (Small per game stipend plus game tix.) Would expect it to still be that way. You sure about the game ticket? When I talked to him about two years ago he told me he never stayed for the game because he didn't get a ticket.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 You sure about the game ticket? When I talked to him about two years ago he told me he never stayed for the game because he didn't get a ticket. Juicy.....so...um...where were you when you talked to him?.....The backup singer is a full time employee.....
Taro T Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 You sure about the game ticket? When I talked to him about two years ago he told me he never stayed for the game because he didn't get a ticket. He must've been misremembering to at least 1 of us. Or maybe things changed through the years.
Stoner Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Comp ticket was taken away. The Sabres needed it. The CBA requires they maximize their revenue.
Taro T Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Comp ticket was taken away. The Sabres needed it. The CBA requires they maximize their revenue. Maybe it was taken back in '05. No data.
nfreeman Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Comp ticket was taken away. The Sabres needed it. The CBA requires they maximize their revenue. Very nice.
tom webster Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 He must've been misremembering to at least 1 of us. Or maybe things changed through the years. I'm getting old and I was drinking that night. Maybe it was just some other bald guy in a tux. Comp ticket was taken away. The Sabres needed it. The CBA requires they maximize their revenue. Now that was funny
Weave Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 A former co-workers brother did the in game announcing after Milt Ellis retired. He had comp tix as part of his compensation until a season before they moved into the new arena. Then it wasn't offered to him anymore,
Brawndo Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 I'm not sure if this changed with new ownership, but when Golisano owned the Sabres the only form of payment for the medical doctors was comp tickets
