Marking topics as "read"

Lately a lot of the topics that I've already viewed, mostly those that I start, will appear as 'unread' later on when I view the site. Nothing major, just wondering why

What I do is click on the view new content button when I come back to the site after a while (remaining logged in, but away working, or something).  That is like refresh and will mark any new posts as unread since I last clicked that button.

 

This happens every time there is a new post in any topic / thread.  If I don't click that button I get everything, even the stuff I have read already as new posts.

 

So, click that button ... near top right hand side of screen on PC.  Not sure of mobile screen layout.

Thanks NS, I hadn't used that feature before. 

 

Reading the same stuff over again kinda threw me off because usually I just refresh the page and it works but it's been kinda funky since the new overhaul.
