WildCard Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Rumors keep coming, take it for what you will or won't @NHLRumorsDaily 3m3 minutes ago Buffalo would send #8+Foligno+a mid round pick to CBJ for #3. CBJ would be happy to drop to #8 and take Logan Brown. Nothing is done yet!!! @NHLRumorsDaily 10m10 minutes ago Buffalo is absolutely enamored with Puljujarvi and will do what they can to trade up for him Stop teasing me. That deal is an absolute steal. I'd expect Girgensons to be involved though Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Would you trade Zemgus, Foligno, #8 for #3? Quote
Derrico Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Would you trade Zemgus, Foligno, #8 for #3? Yes. Quote
Rasmus_ Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Would you trade Zemgus, Foligno, #8 for #3? I think so. Pujuljarvi is about as tantalizing a prospect as there is in this draft. Quote
Thorner Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Would you trade Zemgus, Foligno, #8 for #3? Of course. But it's just so, so unlikely Columbus would do that. Quote
inkman Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) I miss Eklund. Yeah his rumors were absolutely stupid. This current batch of twatterers either don't quite know enough to put together a good rumor or they are offering up one-sided trades as click bait. Edited June 17, 2016 by inkman Quote

Eklund might have been stupid, but he was thorough. Twitter is second rate Eklund. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 It makes sense if and only if Columbus wants Logan Brown and thinks he will be their #1 C down the line and that they can trade to #8 and take him. Even if Brown is the player they really really want, the proposition makes no sense from the standpoint of valuing assets. That #3 pick is worth way more than #8, a competent energy guy, and a TBD long-shot to play in the NHL. Maybe adding Zemgus could increase the value from their standpoint? Dunno. Quote

You are assigning the value of competent energy guy and long shot. What if Columbus thinks Foligno is a 2nd liner, Brown is a #1 center and thinks that the prospects is guaranteed to be an NHL player, it could make it worth it to them. Personally I think that trade rumor is light. I think it would be Zemgus involved. Quote

Personally I think that trade rumor is light. I think it would be Zemgus involved. C'mon. Those values are notional, but they are objectively fair. No one can reasonably think Marcus is a 2nd liner, and likewise re a 2nd rounder being guaranteed to play in the NHL. Heavens. Didn't think we'd get much debate out of the idea that #8 + Foligno + 2nd rounder = #3 is woefully inadequate to pry the #3 from CBJ. Quote

I mean I think it undervalues Puljujarvi but idk how they rank Brown. If they have Brown right behind Puljujarvi than the trade could make sense from their perspective. To be honest if I were Columbus, I would ask for #8, Zemgus, Bailey and #38 because that is overpay. Quote

If they have Brown right behind Puljujarvi than the trade could make sense from their perspective. Bailey could play as early as next season. He just had to work on small things, he has pro speed and size/shot. Pujuljarvi is so undervalued, and his speed would be so mesmerizing next to Eichel. If there was a Zemgus or Ennis, Foligno and #8 to get Puljujarvi, you laugh to the bank. I love Zemgus, but he has a very similar game to Larsson. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Would you say Justin Bailey is probably going to play in the NHL? I like his upside, but the issue remains open. For every Pominville and Roy (no accident, btw, that the team was GOOD when they panned out) there are a dozen Mike Funks and Drew Schiestels. That's part of the reason that I don't hate loading up a bit on 2nd rounders - through sheer volume, you may hit. I mean I think it undervalues Puljujarvi but idk how they rank Brown. If they have Brown right behind Puljujarvi than the trade could make sense from their perspective. Irrespective of how they rank Brown relative to the Finn, my point is that asset management would dictate that they get more for their pick. I'm trying to think of an analogy: I'll try this - rough as it is. If you liked Canadian Club and Crown Royal equally well, and say you actually need CC more because of how it works with the cocktail you're making, would it be rational to pay Crown money for a fifth of CC? I'd say no. Because the market otherwise dictates the value of those two things, and Crown is worth more. Quote

WildCard Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 TBF, despite some of these rumors being a little more wild than usual, they seem to all have a constant theme: the Sabres want to move up in the draft. It also corroborates with the national media, or legitimate sources, saying the Sabres aren't afraid to make a move and are a team to look out for, as well as Murray saying in his end of the year presser that he's well aware of where the draft is, and wouldn't mind making it highly enjoyable for the fans. So, while I'm not sure we'll fleece CBJ like that, moving up seems to be a very possible, and maybe likely thing. Quote
