LGR4GM Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 The train has left the station, and we're all on board, wherever it's headed. Â Did we run out of tank gifs that now we need to resort to trains? Â No just responding to this post. Quote

carpandean Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Separation of coach and GM is still important. If GMTM crosses that line, and then Nolan is fired or quits, it'll get out to the media that Nolan was forced to leave because he wouldn't tank. Â And. Â We. Â Will. Â Never. Â Hear. The. Â End. Of. Â It. Â We've been under the shelter of plausible deniability about the tank. Â GMTM makes moves that he can claim "make sense for the rebuild," and he gets to deny the involvement in a tank. Â That changes if he tells the coach who to play. Â It also potentially threatens the ability to keep or hire a head coach if candidates believe that the GM will "meddle" in the coaching duties. Â The way to tank isn't to force the coach or players to do something they weren't bred to do. Â It's to cut the nuts off of the roster. Â Don't like who Nolan plays? Â Move 'em. Â GMTM had his chance to maximize the tank with roster moves before the deadline, with the exception of players on two-way contracts. Â The train has left the station, and we're all on board, wherever it's headed. Â There's a big difference between telling the coach that, at this point, you want to focus on developing players or that you want to see a certain goalie get some starts to see if there is anything there, and flat out telling him that you want to tank the rest of the season. I agree w/ what you have to say. Lindback played very well in February. I can see GMTM wanting to get a good look at the guy. And w/ how well he played I see no reason for Nolan not start him tonight. If he gets shelled, have hopes he does, play the other guy. Just tank on Buffalo...tank on.... Quote

Agreed, of course, and I don't think GMTM would tell Nolan flatly to lose under any circumstance.  But a lot of coaches would say that player development and getting looks at players is within the realm of the coach's empire.  If Nolan wanted to put the team in tryout-mode, where we start getting longer looks at younger guys, I think it'd help the tank and maybe even the rebuild.  But it's separately GMTM's decision to install those players and Nolan's decision to play them more.  Nolan may decide he can get the looks he wants with players earning their ice time in limited roles, and it would be his right to go that way.  It'd be fun to bring in all the kids to play all sorts of crazy minutes, and we'd probably lose a bunch of games (to our long term benefit) doing it, but it just might not be in the cards for any serious coach to do that. CallawaySabres Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 I really applaud anyone here who actually looks for real hockey from this Sabres team. It's hard to imagine the season is still going on.....it's really not over yet - wow Quote
skaught Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 I honestly don't understand how you people are complaining about Lindback over Hackett. Who effing cares?! They're both scrubs. Quote
Doohicksie Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 VINZ!!!! Â Seriously, once they've clinched and everything else (so they couldn't say it was for the tank), I'd love to see Vinz play. Quote

Hoss Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Toronto had some openings there and instead elected to just skate backwards and casually before being offsides... This team needs a complete makeover. Pure laziness on just about everybody's part there. The was Schaller doing there? He just skated over the line about a half a mile ahead of Hodgson. Quote
rumblefish Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) I do Callaway, but some say I am a dreamer, and am still stuck in the give all you got every game, so I guess pride hasn't left me with the fall, and Sabres just scored, ya Edited March 11, 2015 by rumblefish Quote
