dudacek Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) Jesus, is there a former Sabre they don't want? Edited March 2, 2015 by Djuda Chekhov Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 2, 2015 Author Report Posted March 2, 2015 WGR 550 @WGR550 17s18 seconds ago Stewart deal! RT @Russostrib: TSN reporting #mnwild has acquired Chris Stewart for a 2017 second-round pick Quote
Brawndo Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Wouldn't be a deadline without a Buffalo and Minnesota Deal Quote
Iron Crotch Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 We already have their 2016 second rounder. Now we have their 2017 second rounder too. Quote
Marvelo Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) 2017 is a long time to wait but a good trade for the tank. Pretty sad that he found out about it on live TV on tsn and not the Sabres. I see the Hasek tribute, the lack of Pominville tribute, the 2 successive tanks etc....seems like the opposite of a professional organization. Edited March 2, 2015 by 716 Quote
qwksndmonster Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 2017 pick, that's pretty hilarious. That's about what I expected to get from a Chris Stewart trade. Quote
PotentPowerPlay22 Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 My instant reaction is similar to Neuvirth's: the trade stinks unless they can re-sign him as a free agent. (p.s. Plus the tank of course) Quote
darksabre Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 I'll take that. I'd rather have a second in 2017 than a third/fourth in 2015. Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 2, 2015 Author Report Posted March 2, 2015 supposedly Sabres are retaining salary in the deal Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) Not impressed with with Murray's moves today. Edited March 2, 2015 by PromoTheRobot Quote
MattPie Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 So what we've learned is former Sabres forwards go to Minnesota, former Sabres D go to LA. Do you think the Wild fans will go berserk if we Moulson him? Quote
Iron Crotch Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Murray is likely going to re-sign Stewart on July 1st, so it is basically a free 2nd rounder in 2017. Very similar to CodyMac and Moulson deals (both to his good buddy Chuck Fletcher in Minny and both were re-signed on July 1). Quote
Claude_Verret Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) That 2017 2nd rounder might come in handy say at the 2016 2017 deadline when we might be a bubble team challenging for a playoff spot.... edit: meant 2017 deadline, in 2016 even though it's a tankless season, this team is once again a dead cinch lock as a lottery team IMO. dudacek Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Realistically, I don't think we could have got better than this for Stewart. He's got tools, but he's a flawed player. Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 2, 2015 Author Report Posted March 2, 2015 well seeing the last few deadlines and the prices paid at this deadline... I think Tim Murray was right in line with everyone else. That 2017 2nd rounder might come in handy say at the 2016 deadline when we might be a bubble team challenging for a playoff spot.... or in 2017 when we are a playoff team potentially... Quote
MattPie Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Realistically, I don't think we could have got better than this for Stewart. He's got tools, but he's a flawed player. A flawed player and a rental, and with rumblings that he wasn't going to sign anywhere until July 1st. Quote
Stoner Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Paul thinks this is what Murray was holding out for, in a "staring contest" with other GMs. Paul says Murray won that contest. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Hell yeah. Way to stick to your guns and get that second rounder, GM TM. I know, I know -- present value of money and all that. Whatever. It's another asset - a decent chip that he may be able to use at some future date. Quote
darksabre Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 That 2017 2nd rounder might come in handy say at the 2016 deadline when we might be a bubble team challenging for a playoff spot.... This is essentially my line of thinking. It's a nice bargaining chip for later. Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 2, 2015 Author Report Posted March 2, 2015 we are retaining half stewart's salary. Quote
sicknfla Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 That 2017 2nd rounder might come in handy say at the 2016 deadline when we might be a bubble team challenging for a playoff spot.... That isn't happening. This team is a LONG ways from being a bubble playoff team. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Also, fwiw and with full warning to those who hate #fancystats, there was informed talk out there about how Stewart was/is, in fact, not very good: That 2017 2nd rounder might come in handy say at the 2016 deadline when we might be a bubble team challenging for a playoff spot.... /high five well seeing the last few deadlines and the prices paid at this deadline... I think Tim Murray was right in line with everyone else. or in 2017 when we are a playoff team potentially... /another high five Quote
Eleven Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Stewart on NHLN: It's a special day. Excited to join a team making a playoff push. Rumors became too much to handle through the season so he stopped listening and focused on his game. "Inconsistent" is a fair assessment of him (I am amazed that he admits this). Excited for a fresh start. Will pending UFA status and being on a better team help his consistency issue? Sure. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 That isn't happening. This team is a LONG ways from being a bubble playoff team. they will absolutely will be a playoff caliber team in 2017. Quote
