LastPommerFan Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 This is being discussed in the Around the NHL thread, but seems to be worthy of a dedicated thread.http://www.mississauga.com/news-story/5340184-former-nhl-player-steve-montador-found-dead-at-his-mississauga-home/I think we'd be hard pressed to find a Sabres Fan who didn't like Steve. RIP. Quote
North Buffalo Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Crap RIP to one of the good guys? Anneurism?. Quote
Stoner Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Terrible. Steve was a character. Have a feeling the whole PCS story is about to heat up again. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Oh, what? Booo. Likeable, hardworking guy. Concussion problems sent him into depression, from which he fought back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-9zEBDTCbk Quote
pastajoe Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 @mirtle: Steve Montador's death believed to be a suicide. He suffered from concussions and depression. Difficult financial situation too I'd heard. Quote
Stoner Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Went to the KHL and suffered another concussion? Seems like he just couldn't walk away from the game. That adds another layer to the reason he might have done what he did. (Early reports are unconfirmed of course and are often wrong.) Quote
nfreeman Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Terrible. This is why head shots need to be taken seriously. Godspeed Steve. Quote
Hoss Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 @mirtle: Steve Montador's death believed to be a suicide. He suffered from concussions and depression. Difficult financial situation too I'd heard. Disgusting by Mirtle to publicize this. And it's an assumption. The report from doctors is that it appears to be of natural causes, not suicide. Quote
sicknfla Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Rest in peace Steve. This is happening far too often in sports. Quote
Weave Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Let's turn this baby into a Monty appreciation thread. Youtube em up, boys. Quote
Stoner Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Let's turn this baby into a Monty appreciation thread. Youtube em up, boys. Are you serious? I know your heart is in the right place, but still... Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 I'm sad and angry all at the same time. Sad, of course, because 35 is way too freakin' young. Angry because whether natural causes or suicide, I'd be fairly surprised if concussions didn't play a role...and the NHL continues to think 2 games here or there is actually a punishment. Quote
Weave Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 I respected the hell out of the guy. Quote

I've been trying to find out what caused the concussion in February 2012 that kept him out of the lineup for seven weeks. He returned for one game and went out again and never really came back. There were no fights in that February 2012 game against Colorado. It was the guy's game. We can't change what he was. Fair enough. Quote
X. Benedict Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 RIP Monty, Always seemed like a stand-up guy to me. Sad. Quote
thewookie1 Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 So, so sad, I certainly hope he didn't take his own life because I would have hoped he'd gone to a former team and asked for a job or something. Far too young to go. RIP Steve Quote
Hoss Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 There's a report from doctors already, and it's in the media? @ESPNChiPowers: Peel Regional Police spokesperson confirms Steve Montador's death. Thought to be of natural causes. Autopsy being performed due to his age. Quote

Unfortunately concussions don't always come from dirty hits. Concussions are far too common in many sports and I don't know if they are something that can ever be eliminated. Poor bastard, 35 is way too young. RIP! Quote
