Crusader1969 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 This is basically the current lineup adding McEichel and Reinhart. Not exactly inspiring the masses to be competitive, as the current roster is one of the all-time worst NHL teams. I'm thinking that GMTM has way more up his sleeve than hoping a 19yrs old and a 20 yr old lead the team to the playoffs. What that will be is anyone's guess, but i'm thinking there will be significant FA action to fill out the wings. not to be a Debbie Downer but have you seen the list of eligible FA's this summer? I am targeting Justin Williams for this, but GMTM may have another name up his sleeve. By the way, when I mentioned significant activity, that does not preclude a trade for a RW, if the UFA list doesn't tickle your fancy. Quote
Taro T Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 My guess: Kane - McEichel - Ennis Moulson - Grigorenko/Girgensons - Reinhart Foligno - Girgensons/Grigorenko - Gionta/FA/trade Desaulariers - Larsson - McCormick/Gionta Gorges - Bogosian Zadorov - Ristolainen Pysyk - FA FA Nuevirth/FA Spares: Weber, ???, ??? Looks like it's too young, but youth worked for Moe-ray-all ~30 years ago. Probably see at least 2 spots pencilled in replaced w/ somebody brought in for the guy pencilled in plus a bunch of prospects. Quote
Crusader1969 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Lets be honest - this team is probably doesn'tcontend for a playoff spot until 2016/17 with all the youth at forward (especially at center) I would consider signing back Stewart. Let him have a crack at the top line with our new "centre" and Kane. Then in another year replace Gionta with Bailey / Baptiste. Eventually as all the draft picks push for spots there is going to have to be another 5 for 2 trade down the road. Quote
SabresFanInRochester Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 The Right Wing I really wanted to see in a Buffalo uniform was/is Ryan Callahan. I like love the way he plays the game. He is a guy that adds grit and skill. When he was being traded from the Rangers, I was really hoping some how Buffalo could get into the mix. When Tampa signed him long term, I was disappointed. I had similarly feelings when Patrick Kane was locked up long term by the Hawks. I think Callahan plays a big role in Tampa now. I was hoping Callahan would come back to his hometown like Gionta did, but that's a pipedream now. I don't know if Callahan in a couple years would be a good fit, but right now (meaning 2015-2016), I would classify him as one of the best fits for a right winger in Buffalo. Quote
Huckleberry Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 I'd be happy if we can get erikson from boston. They seem to be eager to "dump" him. late 1st + stewart and maybe a low lever prospect should do it i think. Anything more we should turn to the UFA market and get williams to round out our top 6. Kane - Mceichel - erikson would be a nice 1st line. Oh yeah agreed. It's just really tough to predict the offseason trades that GMTM will make with any certainty, since I am confident it will be for a name that few have on their radar. I will say that it will probably be for a player in a similar mold to Evander Kane, i.e. good size, talented player coming off a down year that has shown top line skill in the past. People around here will be shocked by the price of giving up our prized prospects, but in GMTM's world, there are only 12 deck chairs out there for the forwards, and he'd rather have some talented ###### fill those seats than Compher/Bailey/Fashing all sitting in the same chair. Way I see it, we need a top line RW opposite Kane and McDavid for the first line. This is the trade above. Second line is set at Moulson, Reinhart, Ennis. Ennis is a little small, but has shown the talent to make up for it. Could be a spot for a Justin Williams who I believe is GMTM's type of player. Third line is traditional checking/shutdown line. Any number of Zemgus/Foligno/Gionta/Grigo etc will fill this. Fourth line is the agitator line, with Deslauriers types down there. So here's what we're missing in GMTM's world. Bold is acquisitions and italics are possible upgrades. Kane McDavid #1 RW Moulson Reinhart Ennis Foligno Girgensens Gionta Deslauriers #4 C #4 RW Bogosian #1 RHD Ristolainen Zadorov Gorges Pysyk Starting Goalie Backup Goalie Thought bogo was a RHD. Sekera - bogo like i said above would be ideal i think. Quote
