Good point.  Lemieux is a kid who fell to the second round of the draft.  Maybe there is a reason he lasted that long.  And, maybe there is a reason Murray wouldn't give into his contract demands.

With regards to Lemieux v Bailey (and other prospects) I think it is a bit of recency bias. We as fans tend to forget about the 'older' prospects and over-value the more recent picks. Once a player has a few years in the system, they are more valuable to GMTM, but we as fans are thinking of the most recent acquired prospect because they are still in the limelight during their draft year.

I'm pretty sure he went straight down the tunnel and didn't return after that one... he stayed out there out of necessity after blocking the shot because he was trapped in the defensive zone, but as soon as Nashville scored he left the ice in considerable pain.

I know he didn't come back for a shift, but I would swear I saw him back on the bench later. Also, he skated out to the center faceoff dot and back to the bench. Either way, blocking a Weber slap shot is crazy.

But still pretty far down the list. And this is just the one league. Think about all the other leagues and how big a pool of players is out there and 19th in this league could make him 150th in his age group through out the world.

Zach Bogosian’s stomach turned Wednesday after he was pulled into a room and told he was traded, but only for a brief moment. The veteran defenseman was still digesting “you have been traded” when he heard “to Buffalo.” He was hardly devastated. If anything, he was thrilled. No, really.

“You don’t know what to think. Everything happened so fast,” Bogosian said Thursday while riding in a limousine from Toronto. “Once I heard ‘Buffalo,’ everything kind of clicked. I immediately thought of how close I would be to home and get a chance to play in front of my family and friends.”

Bogosian had been to the region enough times over the years to appreciate the place. He always had a soft spot for Buffalo and was excited after he was included in the seven-player swap with Winnipeg. He embraced the idea he would become a key figure on a team that can only get better.

Right now, Brandon Lemieux is 35th in scoring in the OHl. That hardly translates into a sure fire bet to be a scorer in the NHL. Justin Bailey sits at 19, and I'd consider him a long shot to be an impact player

Hmm, maybe I missed him come back out... he looked to be in such a bad way and it was close enough to the end of the game that maybe I just assumed he wasn't coming back.

No but it was noted when he was drafted that he was a PP specialist, something this team could really use.

 

But the only thing that stings in this deal a bit is you give lemieux + armia.    That being said murray felt comfortable in doing so because we got a great pipeline of young players coming up and still a shitload of draft picks in the next two drafts.

In the end you can't keep them all because you only get to have 50 contracts, its nice we packaged these up for high end nhl ready talent.

 

In the end we got a guys in bogosian who is tougher than myers and gets to play for his favourite team, this guy won't dissapoint i think.

And a top line winger for Reinhart or Mcheihel as soon as next year.   I can't wait till next year, im very excited.

Bucky's a moron.  He contradicts himself constantly.  He does so here:

That’s a shipload of money for a third-line player in Winnipeg who was considered a problem child before undergoing surgery.

 

So is Kane the best player in the trade?  Or is Tyler Myers?  Or is Kane a third line player?  Tyler Myers has more value than a third line player.

 

Even if you consider his qualifiers, it's still a nonsensical point.

Seeing as what Detroit, LA, and Calgary refused to give up for Myers, I have a hard time believing his value was much greater than what we got for him. It seems to me he was valued by other GMs as a second pairing defenseman, and we got a return in line with that valuation.

We were asking a lot for Tyler... we were asking for return on what Tyler's potential could be.  Which, if one of those deals were to actually execute, it would have been bonerific.

 

Instead, we received return on what Tyler is on a good day: a #3 D on a contention-worthy defense.

 

Which happens to be exactly what we got in Bogosian (plus some spare change in Kasdorf).

I haven't read the article yet. But to be fair, Kane was getting third line duty in the peg. I believe that situation was likely more toxic than any of will ever know.

 

I sure miss Jim Kelley also and could imagine the fun he would be having today? One of the best ever.

Not just one injury, but I thought I heard a broken bone in his foot, a broken bone in his hand, and the shoulder. He just couldn't work through the pain and loss of strength from the shoulder injury any longer, hence the surgery.

yeah, the injured Kane was on the third line. A healthy Kane is a top 6 forward.

From all the hype I've heard, and what was given up t get him, he better be a top 3 forward.

I really think Winnipeg took on most of the risk here, not Buffalo.

Absolutely. If they don't re-sign Stafford and none of the prospects pan out as top 6 players (and the odds are they won't), then 4/5 of what Winnipeg got back for Kane and Bogosian is worthless. In the meantime, Buffalo gets a plug-in D man with a better defensive game and a sure-fire top 6 forward if Kane comes back healthy. 

 

It's easy to see why Winnipeg demanded what they did because they assumed the most risk.
