I also think they've used up pretty much all of their cap space once Clay is factored in.

$5.1M left.

This would be a smart move. One of the best linebackers in the league last year, per PFF.

Rodak: Bills expected to talk contract extension for Nigel Bradham this week, per sources. Negotiator Jim Overdorf and agent Drew Rosenhaus in town

I don't believe it for a second, but a guy who has always blogged/tweeted about the Bills but never reported legitimate news claims a source told him the team is close to acquiring Philip Rivers but the only thing in the way of the deal is Rivers' wife hesitating to make the move to Buffalo.

I don't believe this for a second. I would LOVE it... But we just don't have the assets because we'd have to move a around $10M this year and more in the future to get it done. Dareus would basically be included in the deal because I don't believe we could have Dareus, Rivers and Mario long-term.

Of course, he is writing about the team that drafted him...

(I'm optimistic about this coming season, too, though.)

But he has been a well respected analyst for years and I don't recall him showing any bias for the Bills before.

I doubt this is happening as well but why does no one ever talk about trading Mario Williams? Him and Hughes play basically the same position in Rex's defense, they still haven't restructured his deal and if there is an asset that could vommand a healthy return, he is it. Again, I'm not saying it will or even should happen, just think it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Would be tough to lose him, but if taking him out allows for a real quarterback to come in, then they'd have to seriously consider it.  The drop on D wouldn't be nearly as big as the rise on offense.

Take it for what it's worth but I heard it was a 2016 or 2017 first round pick. I'm not concerned about the finances. Teams figure that stuff out without losing their best players, i.e. Dareus. I just don't see why Rivers would want to move his family of 7 or 8 to cold as Buffalo. He's a devout Christian and very into his family. They are going where he goes. No way can I see a southern girl want to move her nest to this hell hole.

Prominent poster YoloinOhio over at TBD posted a ton of twitter quotes from Rex Ryan and the Owner's Meeting Coach's breakfast in Arizona this week, check them out.

Yeah I saw all those. Lots of confident quotes from Rex.

And he absolutely blasted Bryce Brown. Along the lines of won't learn his name until he learns to hold on to the ball.

Probably because Mario is still, by far in my opinion, the best player on the team. Hughes is what he is because of Mario I believe. Statistically he may go quiet once in a while but it's not by his fault. When he explodes he wins games for you. Restructuring this year doesn't really impact anything. A restructure with him would likely be coupled with an extension.

This is, sadly, my opinion of it, as well.

Carucci says the NFL asked the Bills to be on Hard Knocks (they can't mandate them since they have a new coach) and the team turned down. Really think this team would've been perfect. Oh well.

I'm really glad that the team did turn them down. Hard Knocks has been a show for the teams desperate for attention and generally end up being not very good football teams. That this team turned down the offer shows me that they are serious about building a winning team and don't want/need the distraction/added attention.

Agreed. With Rex, a new owner, all the FA signings...the last thing I want is Buffalo to be the center of the NFL universe. Being on Hard Knocks would have been fun and interesting, but it's too much to heap on at once IMO.

First, I have to say that you have gotten a lot better about distinguishing what is your opinion as opposed to what is fact. For whatever its worth, this old guy appreciates that.

Second, I agree with you about Mario but as Carp said, I believe if moving him brought a bona fide QB, it would not be a deal breaker. Guys like Rex think they can scheme a defense around the personnel they have.

Third, I agree with Ink. Rivers isn't coming here. If anything he will want to move back home to Tennessee.

That's the rumor. I just don't see a scenario where a Rivers runs through Buffalo.

Well since he's a slow moving Rivers he'd fit right in here... Just hope he doesn't get jammed up.

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN says the Bills have talked with the Eagles about Sam Bradford. Also says that, as others have reported, that the Browns offered a first. If a first wont get him then I'm not interested. Not even a little bit.

Carucci, again, says the Bills are trying to extend Cassel's deal to make it cap-friendly. I don't understand this one. It's under $5M. Not sure what they're trying to fit cap in for. Not much left out there. Depth at LB (Spikes?), safety pickup (Landry?), offensive line help (Jake Long, Justin Blalock?). I don't want him getting an extension unless there's little in the way of guarantees.

Bills have spent an NFL-high $91.5M in guaranteed money this offseason.

Pegula talks about offseason moves.

Pegula then noted that that the camaraderie of the coaching staff is so strong, the coaches have meetings “sitting in the hot tub together” at the Bills’ training facility.

“It’s not a pretty sight,” Pegula said with a laugh. “But, as” offensive coordinator “Greg Roman pointed out, the players are going to feel” the bond that the coaches have with each other and the organization as a whole.

But our owner is also part Mr. Rogers.

Pegula formed an instant connection with another of the Bills’ key acquisitions, Percy Harvin, the wide receiver/return specialist with a troubled past. The Bills’ owner long had tremendous respect for Harvin’s talent. He recalled when the Bills faced the Jets, Harvin’s previous employer, last season, he said, “Don’t get the ball to this guy! Don’t let him touch it, please!”

“I told Percy, ‘This isn’t about football; this is about you as a person. And I’m here, Rex is here, Greg Roman, all of us … we’re here to help you beyond football,’” Pegula said.

Pegula said Harvin became teary eyed during their conversation, and the owner, who is known to wear his emotions on his sleeve, also became emotional.

“I talked with him for quite a while,” Pegula said. “He’s a good talent and he’s part of the family now. He’s definitely a good person. He needs people to support him; we all do. And we’re going to support him.”

The owner shared a story about Harvin flying on Pegula’s private jet and discussing dogs and sports-related books pertaining to mental strength with one of Pegula’s daughters.
