I dunno. Fair or not (quite possibly not), there is a certain sense of déjà vu with the Pegulas trying to push the Bills over the top in 2015.

I don't fault them for either attempt -- on the contrary, I appreciate the effort and commitment.

Even so. . . .

The difference is they have Doug Whaley at GM.

Incognito and Urbik are serviceable. Add Richardson, Cuandjo, maybe a draft pick and FA to the mix and I think they will be fine. The OL thing is overblown by everyone all the time.

You might be right.  But OG (along with QB S and LB) is now our biggest hole.  I am curious what FA OL options are still out there?  It will amost certainly get addressed in the draft, of course.  Or, are there any OG's on the trading block?  I have no patience to wade through the TBD threads these days...

I don't entirely agree.  In both cases we didn't get what we needed most.  For one it was a center so we subbed a LW, for the other a QB and we subbed some other stuff.

Without what we needed most we won't see the success they are trying for.

The Bills were aware of the limited options at QB.  They did what they could and moved on (also pending a QB move in the draft).

With Leino, the Sabres were desperate for a center, and as I recall there were scarce FA options that year.  When Leino was signed at high risk (big contract with not a ton of cap room... not to mention his resume consisting of one above-average playoff series), we knew they were REALLY desperate.

In contrast, the trade for Cassel and signing of Tyrod were both low risk (not huge contracts with cap, picks for Cassel late round).

Five minutes of searching at the time also revealed that he hadn't played center since his second-to-last year in the Liiga ("Finnish Elite League") and that the new coach that he had in his last year there attributed his substantial increase in output to being switched from center to wing.  He was as much of an NHL center as Gerbe was.

Paetsch used to play Wing and D. I remember reading after he was gone that the coach asked him, "Hey,. can you play wing? I don't have a place for D but I need a winger." to which Paetsch said, "Sure coach!". He hadn't played wing since midget or something. Guys will say anything to get ice time.

Found it.

I always liked that Paetsch would play either forward or defense.  He wasn't super fantastic at either, but neither was he a liability.  That's also one of the things I like about Deslauriers.  I think he's got much higher ceiling than Paetsch, but the fact that he can slide back to defense when necessary (like when we had three D-men in the penalty box a few games ago) is a nice option to have on the bench.

http://sportsglory.com/nfl/jay-gruden-wants-redskins-to-trade-robert-griffin-iii/38207

According to Redskins’ ESPN beat writer John Keim, Gruden wants the Redskins to trade Griffin and doesn’t want him to be his quarterback anymore.

If it were up to the coach, Griffin would be gone. The owner, it appears, wants to keep him around another year. Griffin does not have a ton of supporters on the football side as far as feeling he can become the sort of franchise quarterback they once envisioned. So, no, I don’t think they’re on the same page. Not saying Jay Gruden is right or wrong in his assessment, just that they differ. I think the only way Griffin gets traded is if another quarterback comes back in return (probably obvious). Based on the coaches not having much confidence in him, anything is possible. But they’ll have to convince the owner it’s a smart move and I’m not sure they’ll be able to do so.

Absolutely. I have no idea what the price would be, and I also haven't seen a single report saying he's available.

I think I read today that Buffalo only has about 8.5 million left after the rooks get signed.  Not sure how much cash it would take to sign him, but I would think Buffalo would need to free up some coin.

He's got a $6.1M cap hit this year. UFA next offseason.

RG3 is too frail for the NFL. I can't recall anyone else EVER dislocating his ankle just by running and cutting. His joints and ligaments were meant for some other kind of athletic pursuit. He's an injury waiting to happen as his history suggests.

Pass on RG3.

GO BILLS!!!

Saw that now. Not sure it means anything. If he were going to get traded I think it would've happened by now.

The draft is still around the corner. By the sounds of it, and last season's evidence, Gruden does not like RG3, and will not play him. There's a reason Colt McCoy decided to return to Washington. If he's not going to play, and I don't believe he starts even 50% of their games this season, then they're idiots to not try and trade him before he hits UFA status.

The deal for RG3 by the Redskins in the draft will forever be one of the most infamous moments in Washington's history.

Dan Snyder gets what Dan Snyder wants. If he wants RG3 to stick around for another year, then that's exactly what's going to happen.

He didn't step in and tell them to start RG3 last season, why would he do so this season? And if he doesn't, RG3 won't start, and you have a useless asset

He may not start, but if Snyder wants him to get a chance, no way he trades him. Abd come now, Dan Snyder is not concerned with burning asserts for no reason ;)

I'm kinda surprised that the only new o-lineman they are bringing in is Incognito.

I'm surprised by this, too. They could technically still make a move, but the free agent crop is pretty bare. I have to assume they attack it in the draft. AJ Cann is the top pure guard in the draft and I would welcome him in at 50.

Roman and Rex must feel pretty strongly that Marrone and Hackett were misusing our linemen last year.

I just think it was a function of the market. The guys they wanted signed early or for more than they were willing to give them. It happens. I fully expect a couple of picks to be linemen.

You're probably right.  I remember reading around the time of the coaching hires that we were going from a zone blocking scheme to a man blocking scheme.  Or vice versa, I don't actually remember.

So, is it: RG3 ain't goin' anywhere.

I think this is right. They may still sign another okay guy before the draft, and then prioritize that area toward the top of their draft.

I also think they've used up pretty much all of their cap space once Clay is factored in.
