The Saints have cut their defensive leader in Curtis Lofton... Just traded Jimmy Graham... Might be trading their best offensive lineman... Drew Brees has one year left on his deal. What's going on there?

EDIT: Should note that they replaced Evans with Unger already.

Could we get Drew Brees?

Saints and Seattle have now agreed on trade sending jimmy graham and a 4 to Seattle for max Unger and a 1st

Hey Carroll has someone to throw the ball to the Endzone Now!!

um. what?

In other news, it sounds like the Saints are also going to be making Pro Bowl G Jahri Evans available.

Twitter says that the Bills are interested in both Boling and Evans.

Don't be surprised if Jahri Evans ends up in Buffalo. Despite Incognito signing, need still there.

@NatJordanNFL: The Bills are "heavy players" for Boling, per the guru with sources on http://t.co/tQsRX4D5yV

Brees has a cap hit of $27M. If the Saints were looking to rebuild, I figure they'd start there, not at Graham and Evans.

That cap hit makes it nearly impossible for the Bills to afford Brees, no?

I don't know, but I'm irrationally thinking about it until I'm told no!

I'm pretty sure we'd cut 15 players to make room if that were necessary.

I think this is what Doug Whaley has been intimating for a while. Without that top QB salary eating ~$25M in cap, you can afford to build a stronger team around a weaker QB.

We shall see if it works. I think having the top QB is still a better formula for success. Unfortunately, not every team even gets a chance at a top QB

Hypothetically in a Brees scenario, we still have the Mario Williams contract to restructure which could save like $8M in cap room this year. That and cutting a few veteran OL (Chris Williams and Craig Urbik) is another ~$6M or so. There's some flexibility there.

That's exactly it, and I'd be shocked if Whaley/Ryan/whoever down at One Bills Drive would say they prefer the non-QB route. But if that's the only path available, it's the path you travel.

Currently have $16M in space according to this http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/, any ideas on who we'd cut?

The good thing about the situation, and probably the best thing the Bills have going for them if they wanna get Brees, is that we're the only team on the cusp to take a run at a 36 y/o QB (turns 37 in January). I can't think of another team with the talent we do that's only missing one piece.

The Cardinals come to mind, though they did just resign Palmer last season before he went out with an ACL. They have $21M in space.

Filed to ESPN: Rams close to trading QB Sam Bradford to Philadelphia for Nick Foles and draft-pick compensation, per sources.

That's the most depressing thing I'll read all day. Foles would've been a great fit in Buffalo.

Sounds like Foles and a second rounder... If that's really the price for Bradford then thank god we didn't waste time on that.

Chip Kelly continues to befuddle me

Chris Williams, Scott Chandler, and restructure Mario.

The strategy is really interesting. Gonna see if the NFL is a team sport or not I guess. I think the Bills are a team built for the playoffs right now, as the 49's were, and the Seahawks are. Problem is, can we get there?

For all the talk about how great Chip Kelly is...I think we're getting to the point where we can say he's a great coach, but GM? Not so much.

Boyes had a similar idea, not bad IMO. I can't stand Chandler, so losing him means nothing to me; any TE will flourish if we get Brees. I don't know much about Chris Williams, in the shaoe our OL is, can we afford to lose him?

Mario restructuring is bound to happen, it's only a matter of when. Do they go big this year to get Brees, or do they save it for next year when Dareus wants to be paid? The cap is supposed to go up next year, and with Pegula backing the bills, at least that's the only financial constrant.

I'm not sold he's even a great coach. He's building a NCAAF team in the NFL, one that couldn't beat the SEC or more physical teams like Ohio State. He's a good/great offensive mind, I just don't think he ever wins in the NFL, at least not as a HC.
