qwksndmonster Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Iv never seen so much speculation and whining over a 3rd string RB We love our Fred. And who can blame us? Really depends how the conversation went (which of course we'll never know). Was it along the lines of "You're going to cut Fred Jackson for Bilal freakin' Powell? Nope, I think not." Or was it simply challenging the thought process and making them (Whaley and/or Rex) explain why Powell was a big enough upgrade to justify what would undoubtedly be an unpopular move (both among fans and players), and perhaps making them re-think Jackson's intangible value, especially when you bring in somebody like Incognito to the locker room. True. I know PA's idea of Terry's intelligence and guile, though, so I seriously can't wait for him to post about it. Quote

I think the decision is Brown or Jackson. Powell is more a threat to Dixon unless Boobie is played more as an h-back/fullback.They want their third back and fullback to be special team players. The open spot is McCoy's backup and Whaley wants that to be Brown. Edited March 9, 2015 by tom webster Quote

sabills Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 I'm kinda ok with T-Pegs saying no to letting Fred go. Do we really get that much of a competitive advantage with Brown here instead of Fred? I know he's younger, but it kinda seems like they might just want him more because they traded for him last year. Fred is a face of the team, keeping him doesn't hurt the performance on the field (probably), but losing him hurts PR big time. Worth it. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Somebody forgot *why* PA's meddling charges were dismissed ;) "Meddling" is simply owning the team. That's about where it came out. I think it was X who, as a friend of the court, persuasively pointed out that "meddling" was essentially indistinguishable from "owning." Quote

Hoss Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) As much as I still want Cutler, I think that ship officially sailed today when Whaley emphasized the plan that includes the QB's role being solely to protect the ball. Also, there is no reason to splurge on Charles Clay. He doesn't offer much that Chandler doesn't in the red zone and we've made it clear that throwing the ball will be an essential after thought. Also, the Bills just signed kickoff specialist Jordan Gay to an extension... Glad we have more of that look forward to. Edited March 9, 2015 by Tank Quote

I think you're confusing what Whaley is doing in light of the fact we don't have a quarterback with what he'd like to do in a world where he could get a good one. Not your fault of course, but I hate stuff like this. What in the world does "reasonable return" even mean? Quote

Brawndo Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 @ByTimGraham: A blip among all the big names being reported, but Bills TE Lee Smith is expected to sign a big contract with another team tomorrow. Quote

Sorry, but not all trade discussions are held completely through the media. The Bears, if true, have an idea what the reasonable return would be and are likely hoping they find a team who has the same view. Quote
Hoss Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Now Graham is back-tracking. Said that if Jackson's days aren't numbered then Brown's are... After saying yesterday the team liked Brown and viewed him as their number two. Quote
calti Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Honestly, he's always been very humble from the day he was drafted. He has enough money to likely walk away. He might not want to deal with pain for the rest of his life. It is a very honorable trait that few have. Good for him to go out on his terms.Yeah its very rare..and almost unheard of for those who don't have serious pain(I think willis has serious pain). But he is still in the rare category. Who left in their prime and uninjured??/ Jim Brown.....and there is a pro-bowl TE for SF in the SB yrs who did but I cant remember his name... Quote

I dislike that smug prick almost as much as I dislike Harrington, HOWEVAH, his reports about Brown as a #2 were likely accurate UNTIL Pegula swooped in and said "no" to releasing Fred. Quote

Well Graham is the only one reporting the meddling which gives me the feeling that Graham is covering his own ass. Everybody else is saying that releasing Fred was never an option and that they only approached him about restructuring his deal... Graham has nothing to lose here. He's leaving Bills coverage this fall so if he burns some Bills bridges it won't matter. Quote

The Bears, if true, have an idea what the reasonable return would be and are likely hoping they find a team who has the same view. So maybe don't report anything at all? Or at least leave it at "Cutler remains on the trade block" and call it a day. But to toss "reasonable return" in there is just so useless when nobody has any idea what it means, including the reporter who likes to pretend he has more information than he actually does. Quote

But to toss "reasonable return" in there is just so useless when nobody has any idea what it means, including the reporter who likes to pretend he has more information than he actually does.To me, reporting that somebody told him they're waiting for somebody to offer a "reasonable return" shows that the team is ready to move him more so than just saying they're listening to offers... It shows that they've got a standard in mind and are just waiting for somebody to bite on it. Just saying they're listening to offers is less valuable and bad reporting. Most teams are "listening to offers" on every single player but some players they have a specific idea of what they want for them and others they just listen to see if somebody gets crazy but don't have an idea of what they want for that player because they aren't looking to move them."Reasonable return" is obscure... But that's probably all the information he got when he inquired about what they might be asking for... So he puts it out. The bitching and moaning around here about every word reporters use is tired. They're doing their job. Today's media demands the most information at the soonest point possible. Accuracy is more important than speed, but not every reporter realizes that... However, this isn't a case of that. Edited March 9, 2015 by Tank Quote
