Wyldnwoody44 Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Yay for incorrect hyperbole. I'm not an English guy (all science here) but how is this incorrect hyperbole. I guess I wasn't going for hyperbole to begin with. I digress, I did not expect the bills to win today, I was lucky enough to be invited to a box, so when we got bad, we could all just mingle and drink in the warmth. I was not super let down because this is what I expected, we may win against some mediocre teams and a wildcard isn't fully out of the question at 3-3 but to think we'd win that game is silly. Btw Miami crushed the titans today, maybe round 2 won't be as lopsided Quote
Hoss Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I've been trying to be as optimistic as possible with this team but man is it tough. I only got to watch the first half today, but I have seen and read enough to know that this team is too bogged down by the constantly terrible moves this franchise makes that good franchises simply aren't making anymore. Let's list the ones in the last two offseasons alone: - Putting stock in the running back position by trading for one when you had a few - Putting MORE stock in the position by throwing a ton of cash his way - Trading two firsts for a WR when you don't have a quarterback - Having two kickers for a prolonged period of time - The handling of the QB situation - sign Cassel, cut Cassel, sign Cassel... trade Cassel - The Bryce Brown for Stevie Johnson trade (essentially) - Almost entirely ignoring the offensive line and hoping scraps and mid-rounders would do the job Then there's the way they handled the kicker situation these last few weeks. Making the change in return specialists was the very definition of making a move just to make a move. Sigh. It's an endless cycle. If they don't break it and make a run to the playoffs here (which is still a very real possibility) then I want to see a major shakeup. Put some focus on locking up your own guys then make a REAL move for a QB and offensive line. (Yes, I know I defended the running back move... I just wanted to be optimistic about a move but my denial has come to an end). Quote
nfreeman Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Whoever that special teamer is that celebrated his (pretty nice) tackle by leaning over the returner, taunting and getting a 15-yarder should be released tonight. This team is a complete fraud, especially the D. No heart and no brains. They've played 4 teams with credible offenses. 3 of them have done whatever they wanted against this zillion-dollar D (which the Bills are married to, BTW). Their genius GM has handed out huge contracts to this D like Halloween candy. They have 9 sacks in 6 games. There is a grave and gathering danger that this team is going to limp to a 7-9 or 8-8 finish. If that happens they are going to have to decide whether to fire Whaley and Ryan (and eat something like $20MM on Ryan's contract), or bring the band back again with no rational basis to think that it will be any better next year -- because they are locked into so many big contracts to underperforming big names that there won't be anything substantial they can do to improve the roster. It's really starting to look like Darcy retention redux. Quote
qwksndmonster Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 No chance they fire Rex. Whaley is another story. Quote
Johnny DangerFace Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 It has happened enough times this year to know that it is on the coaches. More than fair enough Quote

Johnny DangerFace Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 What big contracts has he handed out on D and which ones would you have not done? Quote
Hoss Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 The defense hasn't been much of a problem but the pressure issue is a big deal right now... Marcell's comments about wondering how he would fit the scheme seem like they were all too real before we even knew it. Hughes (1), Mario (2), Dareus (1) and Kyle (1) have combined for five sacks in the first six games this year. Last year it took them three weeks to accomplish that. They had six in week five alone last year. Through six weeks last year they combined for 14.5 sacks (Hughes (4), Marcell (5), Mario (4.5) and Kyle (1)). That's an issue. Quote

Huckleberry Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I don't think its all doom and gloom, besides the pats and the jets ( who i think you will beat twice) you guys are playing teams with a worser record than the bills. 12-4 record is doable still. Quote

It's really starting to look like Darcy retention redux. It's not a personnel issue, and I don't think the team has overpaid for talent. What's wrong is the way the team is using the talent. Take a look at how many times the Bills rush just 3. Take a look at how often they DON'T rush 5 or more. Why is Mario Williams constantly dropping back into coverage? Is that smart? Is that really the best use of his talent? The secondary is good enough that this team should be blitzing early and often. Quote
GoPre Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 My question is if the Bills finish w/ a losing record will Rex Ryan still have a job. I understand you want credibility and don't want to scare away potential coaches, but Ryan is really ticking me off. Have said it over and over. They guy is beyond conservative on both sides of the ball. If it's not broke don't fix it. The Bills d' was aggressive the past 2 seasons. There is a reason they had 50+ sacks each year. Why change the gameplan?! Quote

Total joke. http://t.co/HkYFb6iHUU Rochester is going to have to stream the game on Sunday? That's a total crock, Rochester was blacked out every time there was one and now it's considered a secondary market? Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Is that coaching or the return men just being idiots? Also TrueBlue's point (i think) is our defense is playing far below the level of its player's history and coach's history. A regression up to the both of those means wouldn't be surprising. Pretty much. With even Rex admitting it's time to re-evaluate what they're having the DL do, and some of the DL players saying things...I just have a really hard time believing nothing is going to change. I think game 6 is probably a fair point to start evaluating what is/isn't working, but still far too early to be tossing the staff into the volcano. I think that's pretty fair. I'm not an English guy (all science here) but how is this incorrect hyperbole. I guess I wasn't going for hyperbole to begin with. Btw Miami crushed the titans today, maybe round 2 won't be as lopsided I mean, you said the defense is terrible. The defense is, at worst, above average...which is disappointing when we were mainly expecting it to be great. But disappointing does not imply terrible. My question is if the Bills finish w/ a losing record will Rex Ryan still have a job. I understand you want credibility and don't want to scare away potential coaches, but Ryan is really ticking me off. Have said it over and over. Claude_Verret Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 All I can say is that I'm thankful that I had a day at camp with my daughter for Y guides yesterday. Mostly because I was able to spend an awesome day canoeing, fishing, archery, bb guns etc. with my 7 year old, but also because packing up and getting ready for it made me forget that I wanted to bet on the Bills and therefore saved me a bunch of $. Lastly, if I didn' have the camp day I would have likely wasted another beautiful Sunday watching this hapless franchise remain irrelevant on the NFL landscape. Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Speaking of bad coaching, did anyone else watch this last night: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:13921899 That may have been the worst play call in history, and then to top it off, the coach yells at the players for snapping the ball. Hey Mr. Pagano, when you realize your trick play is going to cause one guy (who happens to be a backup WR) to have to block three, maybe you should call timeout yourself from the sideline? Just a thought. Edited October 19, 2015 by TrueBlueGED Quote
Doohicksie Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I planned to watch the game, or at least some of it. I knew I'd miss the beginning due to a church commitment. But when we got home from church, a few unexpected home maintenance things popped up and I just dealt with them and gave up on the rest of my Sunday plans. As it turned out I guess I did the right thing. If I had watched the game, I would have been in a foul mood and I still would have those repair tasks in front of me. Quote

Taro T Posted October 19, 2015 Author Report Posted October 19, 2015 That's nearly criminal. I am close to sending a letter to the NFL explaining to them how much lost merchandise sales this idiotic decision will cost them. Now that the league has NO blackouts, this one gets effectively blacked out. Quote
