nfreeman Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 The Pats needed a miraculous catch by Amendola to get in field goal position. If not for that, we get the ball with two minutes left and a chance to win. No. The Amendola play was on 1st-and-10 from the Bills' 46-yard-line. The Pats "needed" that catch about as much as Terry Pegula "needed" that $100 he found in his jacket. Doesn't anyone care about having conversations based in reality? The Pats completely and utterly dominated the game, in all phases, until there were 12 minutes left, at which point they took their foot off the gas. In doing so, they left the door slightly open for the Bills to pull off a miracle comeback, which the Bills made a creditable effort towards achieving. However, when the Pats needed to kill some clock and score again to secure the game, they did so with ease. Can anyone seriously dispute that description of the game? Would anyone bet his or her mortgage payment on the Bills winning in Foxboro (assuming it's not another meaningless one like week 16 last year)? Of course not. Now, I think the Bills can beat Miami and most of the other teams they will face this year, and I am sho'nuff going to root for them to do so. But I have a hard time listening to people deliver fictional accounts of what happened yesterday, which was a complete butt-whipping. And now I'm done. Quote
WildCard Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Colts aren't looking good tonight. For as smart as Luck is, he's ironically terrible at picking up and beating a blitz Quote
Hoss Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 TrueBlue 2/2 for both Suh and Bradford so far. Is he 3/3 with Tannehill though? Too early to judge so far Tannehill has been the only universal positive for the Fins so far. It'd be nice if he missed this week so we could just relax and watch an easy win. Not that Tannehill is ever very good against our defense, but it'd still give more peace of mind. Quote

I was very surprised at how disorganized the defense was.disturbing. ps---TT is listed at 6 1. That is really not considered short even at QB. 6 1 to 6 3 is about avg for a QB. Below 6 1 is 'short' and above 6 3 is 'tall'. My guess is that TT is really slightly under 6 foot--like 5 11 3/4.-About the same height as Drew Brees. Quote

One of the things that bothers me about TT being 6' 1" is that he has an annoying tendency to make himself smaller by bending his knees too much on dropbacks and when he's scrambling around. My biggest pet peeve is how often he stands flatfooted in the pocket as well. All QBs, but especially shorter ones, need to be up on the balls of their feet when in the pocket. It's easier to move within the pocket and offers a bit more vision for shorter guys. GO BILLS!!! Quote

Yes, I can seriously dispute your recollection of the end of the game. The Patriots offense did not take the foot off the gas (I specifically remember John Murphy questioning when they would start running the ball with less than 12 minutes to go). They were passing deep into the fourth. And they didn't secure the game with a score with ease. They didn't secure the game AT ALL. The Bills got the ball back with 1:15 to go and just one possession separating them. I agree completely with the sentiment that they looked brutal yesterday. The score wasn't reflective of the way the game went, but they did somehow make it a game at the end. The Bills shouldn't dwell on that one too much. They met the best game plan in NFL history on a few extra days of preparation in Week 2. The hype didn't match the circumstances, so we're all a little loopy right now. Quote
Johnny DangerFace Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 I didn't think the patriots took their foot off the pedal either at all. They kept doing what they were doing. It doesn't excuse anything, but I don't think it's true at all. Nothing in their 4th quarter drives show being conservative. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 The Pats offense kept the gas on...but I definitely think their defense changed the way it was playing. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Completely unrelated, but it's funny how things work out sometimes. Chuck Pagano gets cancer (calm down, I'm obviously not calling this funny) causing Bruce Arians to take over the Colts for a hugely successful run, causing Arians to get serious head coaching consideration following that season and to ultimately be hired by Arizona. Two years later he got to the playoffs with the likes of Ryan Lindley playing QB for half the season, and the following year his team might just be a real player in the NFC with Carson Palmer (who most, including myself, thought was totally washed up after his brief stint in Oakland) while losing his DC to another team and Larry Fitzgerald rapidly aging. Meanwhile, Chuck Pagano is getting his pants coached off and could easily be fired after this season. This begs the question: how much better off would the Colts be if Arians was still, at least, their OC (to say nothing of head coach)? I think, at the very least, Arians would be smart enough to get the offense into a quick passing game when the OL is getting downright abused by the defense for the second week in a row, as opposed to currently, where they are still using deep drops and trying to push the ball down field while Luck gets brutalized in the pocket. Hoss Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 The Pats offense kept the gas on...but I definitely think their defense changed the way it was playing. That's a good way of phrasing it. Their defense got lazy. They didn't intentionally think "let's coast it" but they weren't nearly as strong down the road. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 The colts looked awful.... Makes me feel less excited about our team..... I don't think we have a cakewalk in the coming weeks..... We have to play smarter, much more disciplined if we want to compete. TT is going to have ups and downs as well that need to be accounted for..... Our season will come down to the D.... They need to step it up especially when our O isn't firing. On paper, we have a playoff team in theory, but that doesn't mean crappola if that talent doesn't click together. 1-1 is OK right now..... But we won't know the bills identity for at least a few more weeks, so I will attempt to temper enthusiaatic and pessimistic extremes until that point..... Buckle up and enjoy the ride. Quote

They didn't intentionally think "let's coast it" but they weren't nearly as strong down the road. Belicheat**** changed his scheme in the fourth quarter. He routinely rushed only four or three and dropped seven or eight into coverage. He stopped sending pressure through the A gaps on blitzes and TT had an easier time seeing the open receivers he was missing earlier. I don't think they got lazy; I think they stopped bringing pressure and crowding the LOS. Some of that was due to Roman using more multiple WR sets and less TE and FB formations, too. GO BILLS!!! shrader Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 The Pats offense kept the gas on...but I definitely think their defense changed the way it was playing. And by doing that, they actually helped the Bills make it close with the sack/fumble. Quote
Cereal Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 That Amendola catch on the Pats*' last FG drive was insane. The fans in my section (including me) were like THERE'S NO WAY and then they showed the replay and all we could do was admit greatness. Has anyone seen a video of the phantom Watkins cut/PI penalty? Completely missed it during the game. Quote
Doohicksie Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I saw it while watching the game. There was no infraction. Edited September 22, 2015 by Robins Egg Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Another reason to not totally freak out over Sunday's game: Tom Brady has seven TD passes and no interceptions over the past two seasons against the Bills. Everyone else has 14 TD passes and 21 interceptions against the Bills in that time. (via ESPN) The Buffalo Bills will be fine. Quote

The Patriots are the best gameplanning team in history, in my opinion. From the coach down to the QB they just do it better than everybody else. Whether it's all within the guidelines of the rules is another story. Quote

Hoss Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 So who has a better game plan than the team who is universally praised for their week-to-week game plan? The idea that the Patriots (specifically Belichick and Brady) have the best game plan in history isn't a new or novel idea. Several feel the same. I know you guys have this hate crush on me, but you can try harder than just calling something wrong without putting any effort on your own side to disprove it. Quote

I'm not sure if it's the game plan as much as its Brady's ability to read defenses coupled with his remarkable accuracy. He makes it look easy but it obviously isn't. One if the first quotes ever attributed to Belichek when announcing that Brady would continue to start when Bledsoe returned was how fast he processed the information before him. Quote
