The new and unfortunately much improved Islanders come to the FNC for their first matchup of the season. Former Sabre Great Jaroslav Halak leads the Isles with new additions on D Leddy and Boychuk. They currently sit in second overall in the Eastern Conference and look to be a near lock for the playoffs.

Not as many Garth jokes lately. Seems he has done a decent job of doing what we are trying to do. Added some good veterans to go with some players that they have developed. He may still find a way to screw it up but have to give credit where credit is due.

Moulson, Weber, Kaleta, Mc Cormick, Strachan back on ice this morning. Myers,Gionta, Foligno and Mitchell not on ice. Larsson still up as well. Sabres only have 11 forwards in practice, another call up probable

Grigs or Armia would be my guess. It'll be interesting to see which one

Have always liked him

@BillHoppeNHL: Islanders star John Tavares is still a Bills fan: "That was a tough loss last week."

Logan Couture is a HUGE Bills fan, too.

He built a team around Tavares, I'm so impressed.

Go Sabres! Beat those Strong Island wanks.

I think Garth actually deserves credit for building a solid team this time around. He started with the star draftee (ahem) and then slowly let the prospects build up around him before making a few solid moves this offseason to solidify the team.

I agree. He's had a solid team built for three years running, just last year the goaltending was historically bad and then Tavares went down for half the season...and they were still only the 5th worst team.

Well let's not go overboard, Garth is still a horrible GM, but this is a much better team that's not going to be giving the sabres a top 10 puck this year. They found Goalie and brought in some good fAs to build off of some of the years of many high picks.

Love the comment Boutique building a a team around Tavares, especially coming from a fan of a team intentionally trying to be bad enough to get McDavid to build around

Not here, that's for sure. I'd take a bow, but it's still only December.

I think the prevailing thought here was that they would be better but that Garth would figure out a way to screw it up. Still has time to do it. The Isles being better was a pretty obvious thought.

They didn't last long in the CHL, that's for sure.
