Hoss Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) @SabresPR: The #Sabres have recalled goaltender Nathan Lieuwen from the Rochester Americans. Full press release: http://t.co/s8itGaKn22 Makarov has been light years ahead of Lieuwen this year. Edited November 19, 2014 by Tankalicious Quote
WildCard Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Smart move, keep Makarov where he'll get playing time. Quote
Hoss Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 Smart move, keep Makarov where he'll get playing time. Thats what I was thinking. Quote
mphs mike Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Assuming Makarov has been playing better, this seems to confirm that management views him as a potential part of the ultimate solution. Quote
darksabre Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Does Lieuwen immediately take the starting job? Quote
WildCard Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I wonder how long Neuvirth's out then. On one hand it sucks because he was starting to emerge as a legitimate number one. Yet, this helps with the tank if Enroth is in net, so we have that going for us, which is nice. Quote
MattPie Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Let's not try to read too much into this. For all we know they'll send Lieuwen down next week and bring Makarov up for a week and rotate them (provided that's allowed in the waiver process, etc.). Quote
WildCard Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 If I'm mah-car-off I'm pissed Him, Pysyk, Grigs, Armia...probably Luke Adam too. If nothing else we'll have the most pissed off team in the AHL Quote
Chris in Syracuse Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 I feel bad for Macarov. Last year was the same situation. Your reward for playing well is a much smaller paycheck! Quote
beerme1 Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 Tank on Garth! I think Neuiwy, whatever, the other guy had planted himself as the number 1. I like him a lot more than Enroth technique wise. So I guess if you're about tanking you would see this as a benefit. I get it but you saw Enroth channeling Dom last night lol. Look out he could make a run lol Quote

Liewen (23y) is older, he's been in the system longer so they need to evaluate him at the NHL level now. Makarov (21y) still has another year or two of seasoning ahead of him. Quote
Eleven Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 There have been goalies who didn't do so well in the minors, only to absolutely shine at the NHL level. Just being optimistic. Quote
qwksndmonster Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 A friend of mine was shattered by the Neuvirth injury. He wanted the Jackals to get one of the Amerk's goalies so bad. Quote
Mustache of God Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 Him, Pysyk, Grigs, Armia...probably Luke Adam too. If nothing else we'll have the most pissed off team in the AHL What's the story with Phil Varone? He's leading the Amerks in scoring with 18 points in 16 games. There's all the buzz about Armia & Grigorenko down in Rochester but I never hear Phil's name thrown around. Does he have any chance to make the Sabres or is he in Luke Adam status? Quote

I like him, but he's an undersized center who at 24 is nearing his ceiling.... not much upside. If he was 6'2, 200lbs, he'd be on the big club. Quote
Derrico Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) So we have back to backs this weekend, does he get the start in one? Nm I see our game fri is cancelled? Edited November 20, 2014 by Derrico Quote
spndnchz Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 So we have back to backs this weekend, does he get the start in one? Nm I see our game fri is cancelled? Nolan said Enroth was getting both before the game got cancelled. Quote
BuffaloBorn Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) So who gets called up to Rochester considering that Nuevirth is injured?????? Edited November 20, 2014 by BuffaloBorn Quote
Brawndo Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Lieuwen to miss significant time secondary to the effects of his April Concussion Quote
Iron Crotch Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Is Neuvirth really injured or is there a trade in the works? Quote
