Philosophically he may be right but factually Vanek wasn't quite the sniper we could rely on when needed. He's a great talent just not the franchise carrying forward we wanted.

That wasn't obvious in Vanek's rookie year and the reason he was that high of a pick is because that's what he'd been for Minnesota. You're critiquing it based on a full decade + since he was drafted. He was the right pick @ the time.
