That Aud Smell Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Of course you're exaggerating but what if McDavid's injury is suspected of being something that could follow him for years, not enough to keep him from playing but perhaps enough to bother him? McDavid and Eichel might be close enough that it could push Eichel to number one. Just spitballin'... Quite right on the exaggeration (thanks). And the point is a fair one: GMTM went on record a week or so ago saying that the 2 players were indistinguishably close. Was he posturing? Almost certainly. I am not a scout. I have not watched much of either player. But, FWIW (not much), my gut tells me that McDavid is the super-duper-generational prospect (a la Crosby), and Eichel's a legit elite only-every-now-and-then sort of prospect (a la Tavares?). But, yeah. Depending on what the injury is, it could factor into the analysis. I tend to doubt it will come to that. The kid's 17 -- still made of rubber, practically. Brawndo Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 Im all for waiting for the trade deadline if that means a higher return This is usually true, but last at last years deadline the prices seemed to drop. Quote
Stoner Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 McDavid's injury only boosted his draft status to me. Really? You want the next Gretzky or the next Kaleta? If McDavid ever becomes a Sabre, I don't want him ever throwing punches. (Of course I might be jumping to conclusions; perhaps you just like the passion he showed.) Quote

(Of course I might be jumping to conclusions; perhaps you just like the passion he showed.) I think that no one other than Erie is hurt by this one. McDavid have very little to prove at this point. If anything, this actually reduces his chances of suffering a catastrophic knee injury, which is just about the only thing that can damage his draft status. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 I wanted to watch McDavid play with Reinhart. That's my only disappointment. Gah! That TOO. Seriously. It stinks that he's hurt. To the post upthread about how the incident somehow raises his value (so, like Wonka's glass elevator (Wonkavator?) going up and out), I get it: No one expects him or wants him to throw a punch in the NHL, but the fact that he did in the OHL tends to suggest that he's got some grit and moxie. Quote
pi2000 Posted November 12, 2014 Report Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Well, the fact that he's going to see a specialist this morning means they probably didn't find anything obviously broken on the x-rays but want to be sure all of the smaller bones in the hand are in-tact. If it was obviously broken, he'd be walking around in cast already... and that would be all over the internet by now. So, my guess is he'll probably be out at most a couple of weeks, no more. So you get my point about it raising his value. Thank you. And I mean by that comment that he isn't going to take abuse on end without getting pissed off and doing something about it. I LOVE THAT! Of course you don't want him throwing in the NHL. The fact that he has that soul speaks volumes to the guys heart though. So I keep hearing about this trait in Eichel but here it is from McDavid. He is my heart and soul guy from the next draft. Whoever he ends up playing for I hope his skill elevates him so far above everyone else he wouldn't be fighting and breaking knuckles and such. But it will be fun to watch when someone does push him, he may very well be pushing right back. Looks like he can stick up for himself just fine and wont need anyone to do it for him if need be. Of course he will be a target so he will have to let the battle go on away form him so to speak and Cody Mac or someone else clean it up. Quote

I'm willing to bet he suffered a boxer's fracture. Or, fracture of the head of his right 5th metacarpal bone, which happens to be by far the most common fracture when throwing a punch. Very close to his pinky though. Quote

Campy Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Just a couple of random thought about the McEichels: I'm sure Eichel would look more dominant playing teenagers. I'm also sure McDavid wouldn't look quite as good playing against young men in their twenties. Quote
