Stoner Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) I have no idea why they referred to themselves as the Tappet Brothers, but one of them, Tom, died today. Was he Click or Clack? I don't know that either, just like I don't know where the Johnson Rod is on my car, or if highly caffeinated chipmunks are running on a treadmill under the hood. I didn't even know what Tom looked like until seeing his photo in the news today, and I almost regret seeing it, because I saw him in my mind's eye much differently. What I do know is that tuning in to Car Talk while driving around on a Saturday morning — was there any other way to listen? — brought a certain bliss. And it was really all about Tom's laugh. It deserves a eulogy of its own. Tom, I hardly knew ye, but I feel like I did. http://www.npr.org/2...as-on-the-radio Edited November 4, 2014 by PASabreFan Quote
LastPommerFan Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Has been missed since his diagnosis. Will continue to be missed. Rest easy, my brother. Quote
Assquatch Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Don't drive like my brother. Quote
biodork Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Saw this on FB earlier this evening... sad day. :( I had no idea those guys were that age! I don't even like cars, but the Car Talk brothers and Top Gear trio are so entertaining that it doesn't matter. RIP, buddy. Quote
beerme1 Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 He was a genuine funny man. Sad. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 I listened to a marathon of their shows on podcasts on my last trip to North Carolina. Funny guys. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 The guy was a true American treasure. Quote
darksabre Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Used to listen to these guys on Saturday morning while eating breakfast with my dad (before I became a teenager and just slept till noon instead). Sad day for all of us jalops. Quote
sabills Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Dag, I only really started listening the last couple years. Glad they'll keep the reruns going. He seemed like a great guy, and you can't help but laugh when he starts laughing. Quote
... Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 A tappet is part of the valve system that makes the "click clack" sound, hence "Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers". I loved those guys, listened to them while driving a wheelchair van working my way through college. Quote
