HopefulFuture Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Cant say I noticed him much good or bad. Same here LabattBlue. The only d man that stuck out to me was Ruhwedel, his passing out of the zone is so crisp. He's definitely got the knack for landing tape to taper's as the rush transitions across the neutral zone and up ice. Quote
mjd1001 Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 That crowd of under 5000 is a let down. I'm not planning on going to any games this year (we went to a preseason game)...but if we had decided to go watch a game downtown, This game would have been at the top of the list for pure entertainment value to me. shrader Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 A thought came to mind....Vanek was 21-22 in his first NHL Season. Grigorenko is still 20. He's in the right place. No need to rush him into this trainwreck. Vanek had the luxury of being in the AHL for his entire first season thanks to the lockout. I'm sure he would have been up sooner if not for that. In a way, it was basically the same thing Zemgus got. The sabres should have known better than to bring up Grigorenko after the lockout ended. It was too much of a disruption after an extended start to his QMJHL season. Quote

nfreeman Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Not that it is an excuse but talking about mixed messages.......today you belong at wing, today you belong in the middle, you are a natural wing, no you are our center, actually you are bad....try harder. But there was also probably some of "it's not working for Hodgy at center, let's try him out at wing for a bit and see if he gets some traction" before it developed into "geez, it's not working at wing either and he's not showing any battle for the puck or any improvement in the D zone -- maybe he needs to step it up." A thought came to mind....Vanek was 21-22 in his first NHL Season. Grigorenko is still 20. He's in the right place. No need to rush him into this trainwreck. Yes indeed. Vanek had the luxury of being in the AHL for his entire first season thanks to the lockout. I'm sure he would have been up sooner if not for that. In a way, it was basically the same thing Zemgus got. The sabres should have known better than to bring up Grigorenko after the lockout ended. Yeah, sticking around for that one more year after being drafted helped too. That one year in the AHL though was absolutely huge. Not only was he playing against the older pro competition, but thanks to the lockout, those AHL squads were also loaded up with some extra talent that would have been otherwise playing in the NHL. It almost makes you wonder if Zemgus got some of that as well thanks to the 2nd lockout, at least for half of the AHL season. Quote
