jwhit34 Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Here are some dubious records that are in danger of falling: 1. Most times shut out in a season: 16 by the 2006-7 Columbus Blue Jackets. The Sabres are already 4 for 8, 1 shutout every 5.7 games and the record falls. I can easily see them being shut out 20+ times. 2. Worst Power Play Percentage: 9.35% by the 1997-98 Tampa Bay Lightning. So far: 0%, 0-26. 3. Fewest goals Per Game: The all time record of .8 per game is probably safe (1928 Black Hawks) but excluding the teams from the 1920s, the Lightning averaged 1.8 goals a game in '97-98. With 3 point games, the 21 points for a season record ('74-75 Caps) seems safe, as does their record for 8 wins in a season. Quote
Taro T Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Keep in mind that if the Staals don't come back soon, the # for the Sabres to set a new shut out record could be greater than 16. Just sayin'. Quote
Eleven Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Ugh, I thought about starting a similar thread last week but refrained. Let's have at it. Right now, they could set the record for fewest regular time wins. The modern record is 8 (the expansion Crapitals). This could happen. Quote
bcsaberks Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 3. And the Lightning drafted........... ..... ..... ..... Vincent Lecavalier with the #1 pick in '98. ..... And went on to win the Stanley Cup 5 years later. ..... Whatever. Interesting stuff jwhit. Welcome & thanks. Quote
sicknfla Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I think we average less than 1.8 gpg. Could very well be a 40-50pt team. Quote

Robviously Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Worst team to ever not finish dead last. That would be the worst futility record of all. Quote
bunomatic Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Worst team to ever not finish dead last. That would be the worst futility record of all. The worst futility record of all would be dead last 2 years running and miss out on # 1 both times. Quote
Robviously Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 The worst futility record of all would be dead last 2 years running and miss out on # 1 both times. I think if we won the lottery last summer, we would have drafted.... Sam Reinhart. And if ever there was a year where finishing last and losing the lottery was OK, this must be it. Quote
Eleven Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 The worst futility record of all would be dead last 2 years running and miss out on # 1 both times. Nearly a 64% chance of that happening, even if the team finishes dead last both last year and this year. Quote
MattPie Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 The worst futility record of all would be dead last 2 years running and miss out on # 1 both times. That's the more likely outcome than getting the #1 pick even once. I forget the exact numbers, the last year it was roughly 25%, this year 20%. Which makes the odds of getting 1 #1 pick between the two ~45%, so less than 50/50. If you (the general "you") get mad because Buffalo doesn't get a #1 out of either year, check your math. :) Quote

By the way, if the Sabres become the worst offensive team since 1936, they will have broken their own record set last year. The Sabres were actually worse than the 1997-98 Lightning (1.84GPG vs. 1.85GPG) and the worst offensive team in 78 years. Edited October 25, 2014 by JJFIVEOH Quote

Weave Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 not a huge endorsement of tanking. I'm too damned disinterested to look it up but I'm guessing at least a couple of that worst 10 were expansion year teams. that would make it look worse for tanking than it really might be., Quote

jwhit34 Posted October 26, 2014 Author Report Posted October 26, 2014 Even with the "breakout" game of 2 goals, that's 11 in 9 games, 1.22/game, though it does now project them to score (exactly) 100 in 82 games, and it's really 10 because the 11 includes 1 goal for the shootout win. Goal scorers so far: Ennis 3 Foligno and Girgensons 2 each Mitchell, Hodgson and Deslauriers 1 each Stafford, Gionta, Moulson and Stewart are a combined 0 for 80 shooting (shots on goal) - that is amazing. Still no PP goals. Quote

If anything, I'd say we're due to score a whole lot more goals/game in the remaining 73 games just because we have so man guys waiting to break out (Moulson, Stafford, Stewart, etc.). Quote
qwksndmonster Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Stafford and Stewart breaking out. lol Quote

First shots have to go up. Sabres average 23 shots a game, with a rough league wide shooting average of about 9.5 percent.... 23 shots per game X 82 games X .095 league shot percentage = 179 goals Currently Buffalo is shooting at 4.8 percent....so we need do double shooting percentage just to graduate from un-watchable to simply boring.
