Brawndo Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 The Sabres App just texted me Final 1-0 Ducks. Did they forfeit the last two periods? Quote
Iron Crotch Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Cody is playing below par....again. He doesn't play defense and never has. Quote
Ottosmagic13 Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 I have to admit I miss Ron Rolston's system for clearing the zone. Assuming this is Nolan's, and a genuine "system", it's terribly inefficient. The Rolston centipede? Quote
Robviously Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 That was actually a decent first period. Quote
pastajoe Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 The Sabres App just texted me Final 1-0 Ducks. Did they forfeit the last two periods? They were hoping to get out of there with a one goal loss and rest up for the Kings, but the NHL is forcing them to keep playing. Quote
Nitro60 Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 The Sabres need to do better in the forecheck. The Ducks are getting out of their own end way to easily. Quote
pastajoe Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 There should be an alarm on the Sabres app that wakes you up when the Sabres score. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 The ducks made 2 full line changes during that 2 minute pressure.... Unbelievable..... We didn't look super awful I suppose, and neuvirth had a terrible angle on that goal... But 1-0 is better than what I expected after 1 Quote
LTS Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) I have to admit I miss Ron Rolston's system for clearing the zone. Assuming this is Nolan's, and a genuine "system", it's terribly inefficient. Not sure what you are referring to here. Under Nolan, under Rolston, and in the end under Ruff the Sabres were horrible at clearing the zone and it's because they insist on placing wingers on the low half-wall and fling the puck to them with no speed and a defender hanging on their back. If they don't do that they also ice it or throw it out to center for a turnover. You'll notice that when the D doesn't immediately flip the puck up the boards or go back and forth but instead waits a half second the Sabres will make a short chip pass to a forward in the circle and they are more likely to be up the ice. They looked better in that period. The Getzlaf/Perry combo beat them and that was Perry racing from just above his own goal line and knowing that Getzlaf would hit him with a great pass and boom. Hodgson wasn't going to catch up, no chance. Myers did however have a nice takeaway from Perry after a strong board battle. Myers looked pretty good. The Sabres are still stiff and letting pucks bounce off their sticks. They need to loosen up more and let it come to them. More to come. Quick update. They have the winger nearer the blue line. Same result. Edited October 23, 2014 by LTS Quote

Iron Crotch Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 How periods since we've scored a goal? We're working toward 9 periods, I think. Quote

Brawndo Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 Ken Campbell @THNKenCampbell · 12m12 minutes ago The Sabres have not scored a non-shootout goal in 162:06 of playing time. After the 1st period. Its pretty sad when the most excitement in Dunleavy's Voice is for a Sabres Shot on Goal Quote
skaught Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Since when does anyone call Tyler Myers "Big Tex"? Quote
Nitro60 Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Scoring drought might continue if they don't do better in Ducks end. They look a step slow. Quote
... Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 Not sure what you are referring to here. When Rolston came in, it took a handful of games, but their ability to clear the zone greatly improved. I recall identifying the change, but I forget what it was, and I don't care to review old posts or video to figure out what that was. Quote
