@SabresPR: #Sabres roster moves: Jake McCabe and Mark Pysyk have been assigned to the Rochester Americans (AHL). http://t.co/TSxMN2qRLi

Probably a conditioning move.

Or TM won't let them steal Beno and Mez spots and ruin the tank

Psysk was hurt, so presumably he's been cleared now, and they couldn't move him before. No sense (this season) throwing him into the NHL immediately, might as well let him play big minutes in Rochester. I'm not sure what McCabe's status was, other than maybe they did it at the same time so they could car-pool.

According to this article, he had a minor injury as well:

From the same article, this is why I love Pat Kaleta:

WAITING FOR THE GREEN LIGHT

Patrick Kaleta was also back at practice for the first time since sustaining a scary injury.

He caught a slap shot in the face the team’s preseason game in Toronto on Sept. 28 and needed three plates and 14 screws inserted to repair the damage.

Kaleta wore a full-face shield and a red jersey in practice, signaling he’s not ready yet for contact.

“I’m blessed and lucky that my eyesight is good, knock on wood, so far,” he said. “Everything else was crushed, I guess.”

He thanked his family, friends, teammates and the training and medical staff for their help and support while he recovers. He said pretty much everything he’s eaten has had to be in milkshake form.

The hard-nosed wing has been working his way back from a knee injury sustained last November that ended his season. He’s really itching to get back after this latest setback.

“Once I get the green light, I’m ready to go whether my face is broken or not,” he said.

OUCH.

Don't forget that Benoit and Mezaros are on 1 year deals. If Mezaros can turn his game round TM could get a nice return for him at the deadline.

Meszaros was dealt for a conditional 3rd round pick last trade deadline. He's been worse than ever so far this season, and he's a year older... I think we'll be looking at a 4th for him. Which I would still take.

Prices will be depressed at the deadline as well because the CHL teams will be gearing up for the home stretch.

I would take anything they get for him. Not like Erhoff and cutting ties with him and getting nothing in return. I'm not a fan of letting players go and getting nothing. I'm sure he could have gotten a pick or a player.

If my memory serves me correctly, he cleared waivers to get bought out. Essentially, every team passed on the chance to get him for nothing.

At the expense of a having a ten million salary cap hit to us if he retired early or something like that. Pass goodbye Hoff. No lost love here.

We could've. But the cap reprecussions if he retired early would've been far too much.

He had a NMC and blocked waivers, I believe.

In fact, I believe the Sabres bought him out only after receiving assurances that he would block waivers.

That's right. He was financially better off being bought out, and would get to choose his next team, so it was to his benefit to block any trade anyway, right?
