Taro T Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 I think that this next round of cuts should begin the tighter league requirements. If you're not within striking distance (say, 15 points) then you should be disqualified until further notice from the league.Trimming below 10 teams makes keeping up easier; I was thinking that we'd keep it to 10 (as long as there's that many above or very close to 0.500) and then start dropping it down to a 4 team league as teams get eliminated from the title chase. If there is popular sentiment to contract, I'm good w/ it. I'll try to pull together by next weekend the trophies/awards we've already come up with and those that we've identified but haven't yet named. Though doing an All-shart team would have been appropriate, we can still do one at the end of the season. Kind of stinks, but when you're celebrating the stench that this league has become does anyone REALLY want to be there more than once?

I think it's fair to cut down the number of teams as the league separates instead of just keeping some in for the heck of it. There's a pretty strong separation from the last few teams on the list.

Two or less Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 So we're set up for the biggest game of the year on Thursday then. An absolute, no doubt about it, must win. Twitter is sure to be fun Thursday night. Harrington may lose his mind!
kas23 Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 So with back to backs on Thurs and Fri, any chance Hackett gets the start on Thurs against Edmonton? This absolutely needs to happen. It would be a big F U to Edm and let them know they have no chance.
Brawndo Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Twitter is sure to be fun Thursday night. Harrington may lose his mind! He is already on record saying the winning streak is snapped tomorrow in EDM.

I think you need to leave the nicknames to Taro.
Hoss Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I think you need to leave the nicknames to Taro. Naw. Thanks for asking, tho. I have my fun. I try to come up with something different each time.
Randall Flagg Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 It really seems like Edmonton has a knack for getting within a few minutes of overtime or a (Carrion) loss, and then totally blowing it at the very end. Kinda frustrating. And as we move onto Edmonton I will say for the only time in my life: The Sabres better lose this freaking game.

MattPie Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Fair enough. When we hit 50 games we'll plan on dropping to 8 teams and see where it goes from there. Why not limit down to 6, and use some clever play on the original 6 theme? Septic Six, Terrible Six, [insert something way more clever than I can think of] Six.
Derrico Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I do love that idea and we could get creative but maybe wait until the 60 or 62 game mark for that as we're still a little ways out.
Samson's Flow Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I do love that idea and we could get creative but maybe wait until the 60 or 62 game mark for that as we're still a little ways out. I don't know, there appears to be a pretty distinct gap between the top 6 (Philly @ 51) and the rest (Columbus/Ottawa/Colorado/Minnesota @ 47-46). That and all of those teams are 12-14 points away from the Buffalo/Edmonton disaster.

I do love that idea and we could get creative but maybe wait until the 60 or 62 game mark for that as we're still a little ways out. How about dropping to 6 for the final 20 - it could be 'the race of the septic six down the terminal vortex' or something to that effect? I don't know, there appears to be a pretty distinct gap between the top 6 (Philly @ 51) and the rest (Columbus/Ottawa/Colorado/Minnesota @ 47-46). That and all of those teams are 12-14 points away from the Buffalo/Edmonton disaster. Don't forget, there was pretty close to a 12 point gap between the Sabres and the Eulers but the Euler gravity was strong and much like Jupiter's pull on a NASA deep space probe, not only accelerated the Sabres trek, it also appears to be poised to let the Sabres break from their gravitational field. Hopefully the Desert Dogs don't get caught in the Eurler's reach; Darcy Regier helping to steer that craft could result in hitting ludicrous speed.

Just pointing out that at the current trajectory, it will turn into a two team race pretty quickly. Also didn't notice in my first post that Ottawa and Columbus have 3 games in hand on #6 Philly, so there isn't as big of a gap as I originally stated.
Derrico Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 How about dropping to 6 for the final 20 - it could be 'the race of the septic six down the terminal vortex' or something to that effect? Love the name for it! Final 20 sounds good to me.

pi2000 Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 a few more motivational quotes for the big game against EDM.... these seemed to work last time around: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you take.” Wayne Gretzky "Always give up! Failure and rejection are only the first step to defeat.” Jim Valvano “Failure is the gradual result of always striving to do worse.” Pat Riley "Set your goals low, and stop when you get there." Bo Jackson "Keep your eyes on the ground, and your feet on the ground." Theodore Roosevelt "Failure is simple. Do what's wrong, the wrong way, at the wrong time." Arnold H. Glasow "Failure comes from knowing that you did your best to become the worst that you are capable of becoming." John Wooden
