LastPommerFan Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 How is it misleading? The Sabres have squandered a CHL best 77 points in 1 fewer game than the 73 points the Eulers gave flushed down the crapper. The Sabres can't take credit for squandering the 2 points in hand until they venture to the swamps of Joisey (at the earliest) and actually squander them. It's the same way the Sabres couldn't say they're only 4 points back of the Oilers in the NHL until they've gotten an (NHL-style) win. fantastic use of the word squander and its conjugations.
Taro T Posted February 16, 2015 Author Report Posted February 16, 2015 Yeah I realize that now, Tank has taught me the meaning of the word "misleading" Just glanced at it quick and got mixed up in thinking about it like the regular standings. Yeah, after I'd posted saw the other posts that had sprung up in the interim. Not intending to 'pile on' but too lazy to bother deleting my post.

Hoss Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 Let's have some fun: predict the Sabres FINAL actual record for the season... My shot: 21-54-7 for 49 points.
Hoss Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 To coincide with Taro's standings updates, I'll attempt to update the magic numbers every night. Current magic numbers through 2/15: Nashville - 6 St. Louis - 10 Anaheim - 11 Montreal, Tampa Bay - 12 NY Islanders - 13 Chicago - 14 Pittsburgh - 15 Detroit - 16 NY Rangers - 17 Washington - 18 Winnipeg - 20 San Jose - 22 Vancouver, Calgary - 23 Minnesota, Boston - 25 Los Angeles - 26 Florida, Dallas - 28 Philadelphia - 30 Colorado - 31 Ottawa - 34 Columbus, New Jersey, Toronto - 37 Arizona - 41 Carolina - 43 Edmonton - 47 Not as pretty as the Carrion standings but gets the job done. A Sabres loss or other team's win takes two points off the number.

Hoss Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 Remind me, these are the number of points a team needs to pick up before the Sabres winning-out still won't pass them, right? Yes. The Sabres missing out on points also adjusts the number.

wjag Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Saw this awesome stat today. That 5 on 3 goal they just scored ... was their first 5 on 3 goal in in 694 days
kas23 Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Remind me, these are the number of points a team needs to pick up before the Sabres winning-out still won't pass them, right? Unless than win the lottery....
Taro T Posted February 17, 2015 Author Report Posted February 17, 2015 Unless than win the lottery....The point is locking in McEichel. No way to lock in the lottery.
Hoss Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Forgot about this... Anybody see the 2015 NHL draft logo? The colors are interesting. Edited February 17, 2015 by Tank
WildCard Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) nfw..... This is a conspiracy theory I can get behind Edited February 17, 2015 by WildCard
Randall Flagg Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 I'm missing something. Is it because they are Erie Otters colors?
IKnowPhysics Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Couldn't possibly be the Florida Panthers colors. Naw. Not like last year was Philly colors either. Naw. Or 2013 in NJ.
Hoss Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Couldn't possibly be the Florida Panthers colors. Naw. Not like last year was Philly colors either. Naw. Or 2013 in NJ. Couple things: We're joking (at least I am) Those aren't the Panthers colors. That yellow isn't even close. Those aren't the Flyers colors. They have a notoriously bright orange, not that dull red-orange. Have some fun.
LastPommerFan Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Couldn't possibly be the Florida Panthers colors. Naw. Not like last year was Philly colors either. Naw. Or 2013 in NJ. you need to adjust your monitor. those are clearly different yellows. (#C4961A for the panthers and #FFBB1C for the Logo) Intestingly, the sabres logo is #FDBB30, much closer to the draft logo.
Chilly Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Tyler. We didn't trade you so that you could tie it up vs Edmonton.
Hoss Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) Yakupov scores to make it 4-3 WPG but then Fasth goaltending comes back to tie it up. No way he gets another NHL contract. Edited February 17, 2015 by Tank
WildCard Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Yakupov scores to make it 4-3 WPG but then Fasth ###### goaltending comes back to tie it up. No way he gets another NHL contract. That bad? I've only seen two Oiler's games all year, and I think Fasth only started one of them
TrueBlueGED Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Fasth is exhibit A in why you should never put much stock in short-term goaltending performances. He came into the league looking like Hasek, and now he looks like Lalime at the end.
pastajoe Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 And now Fasth looks like toast as he ripped his groin in the shoot out and had to be replaced. Jets win, but at least the Oilers got 1 point.
Chilly Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Well, at least Edmonton lost one point tonight.
TrueBlueGED Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 And now Fasth looks like toast as he ripped his groin in the shoot out and had to be replaced. Jets win, but at least the Oilers got 1 point. This is going to sound cold, but Fasth getting hurt is great news for the Sabres race to the Shart.
X. Benedict Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 And now Fasth looks like toast as he ripped his groin in the shoot out and had to be replaced. Jets win, but at least the Oilers got 1 point. He did something ouch.
