Could they go with something like the Coyotes did and use Nevada instead of Las Vegas? Would that open up more options considering the lack of good names that Vegas alone provides?

Well, animal wise, Nevada has bobcats, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, kit foxes, diamondback rattlesnakes, mustangs, badgers, wolves, horned toads, gila monsters, antelope..? Black Rock Desert stuff.

Indeed it has been. They're going to blow the entire operation with a bad name.

 

They talked about wanting to match how the Sharks and (Mighty) Ducks knocked their name and logo out of the park at the start which has probably contributed to organizational success, but the reports on potential names shows Foley is too self-obsessed to find the same branding success.

Yes but sometimes the patents get turned down anyway.  Fort Worth tried to name the minor league hockey team the Bulls and were turned down.  It happens.

It's pretty friggin' obvious who the REAL NCAA Hockey Golden Knights are. And they are located in VERY upstate NY.
