Marvelo Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) The list would have to include Mike Wilson, Jason Dawe, Real Cloutier, Grant Fuhr, Clark Gillies, Dave Schultz, Gilles Hamel, Normand Lacombe, Dale McCourt, Jacques Richard, Adam Creighton, Craig Simpson and Mikael Andersson. These talented players simply did not show up almost at all. Leino and Ehrhoff belong to the Fracker Owner and were simply a brainfart by a rookie owner who got taken to the cleaners by his own euphoria. Euros with bad attitudes is another sub category in the disappointments...Hasek,despite his regular season brilliance, had an inability to carry the team against stronger teams in the playoffs, the Kasparaitus goal and the forced trade come to mind. Mogilny was brilliant up to a point then became disgruntled at the end of his Sabres tenure. He would go on breakaways and miss every one. Others to a lesser extent were Euros who won cups elsewhere...Smehlik and Krupp. Other talented Euros like Sekera either didn't work in the system or after awhile decided not to put out. And Vanek with signing the offer sheet with Edmonton was a bad apple as well, despite all the goals. Blown #1 draft choices are a category of their own and topping that list is Morris Titanic, Shawn Andersson, Kevin Haller, David Cooper, Wayne Primeau, Erik Rasmussen, Mika Noronen, Barrett Heisten, Artem Kriukov, Jiri Novotny, Dan Paille, Drew Stafford, Marek Zagrapan and Dennis Persson, with Grigorenko and Joel Armia in waiting. Scotty Bowman aside, the biggest disappointment for me has been the four owners who have paved the way for this disappointing franchise. The owners pick the management who picks the players and time after time, they would get close and then STOP SHORT by not acquiring the 2-3 players to take the Sabres over the top. As a result the greatest players in franchise history almost all became disgruntled with their situations here. Edited August 23, 2014 by 716 Quote
deluca67 Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 Ville Leino didn't disappoint me because my expectations were already so low for the teams he was on. My most disappointing player: Thomas Vanek. I agree with this sentiment. I had zero expectations for any of the players listed in the poll. My most disappointing player: Pierre Turgeon. A franchise needs to get more than 5 seasons and zero playoff victories out of the #1 overall pick. They ended up trading him for LaFontaine who couldn't stay healthy. They got 2 1/2 great seasons out the six he was Sabre out of LaFontaine. That pick was cursed. Quote
X. Benedict Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 for me i I will say McCourt. He just did not like hockey. He could score 20 goals without trying. He just didn't have passion for the game. I'm sure today it would be a post-concussion disorder but the guy always looked sleepless and clinically depressed. Quote

I can still see Jimmy Schonfeld crying and hugging Rick Azar, unable to answer a question he was so choked up at the Buffalo airport and Azar almost crying himself. Bob Sauve left! Quote
waldo Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) Yes. More talent in his pinky that most of the team, but he so rarely put it to use. He would have been a helluva player if he could have been a perennial second-liner. He's got the potential to be a first liner, but he never fulfilled that potential. If anything, when assigned first-line duty, he got worse. Ok, I am bored and will bite. Eighth in scoring in the NHL, or somehing like that , over the past eight seasons . The guy puts up 277 total goals , playing without a legit top tier one center for the past six , on a team without a pp and going nowhere, ...............and you are disappointed ? lol. I kind of like what he looked like on a good line with his near a pt a game, although Kyle was not a perfect match on the RW. That could have been his game here had Darcy had a brain. My biggest disappointment. Jim Lorentz for costing us the cup in 75. Edited August 26, 2014 by waldo Quote
