Weave Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Might be my favorite actor. Rumors of depression and possible suicide are running around. Rest in peace Mr. Williams. You will be terribly missed. Quote
darksabre Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Suicide by asphyxiation. Awful awful awful. Quote
Weave Posted August 11, 2014 Author Report Posted August 11, 2014 There is less funny in the world today. Quote
DR HOLLIDAY Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 RIP Oh Captain, My Captain……. :( Quote
Claude_Verret Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Sucks. One of my favorites. RIP. Quote
Hoss Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I'm having trouble with this one. I'm slowly getting to the age where the celebrity deaths aren't just names my parents know... They're names I know. This one in particular was always a favorite. From Batty, to Patch Adams... An awful end. Quote
LastPommerFan Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 "A whole human life is just a heartbeat here in Heaven. Then we'll all be together forever." What dreams may come is one of my all time faves. Quote
Hoss Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 I dug into my inner child to watch Batty's rap from Ferngully (my all-time favorite cartoon still as a 22-year-old. For those unfamiliar it's basically a comedic version of Avatar without the explosions and gunfire)... These lyrics from the comedic rap couldn't be more appropriate if the apparent suicide is what happened: They used and abused me Battered and bruised me Red wires green wires stuck em' right through me! So hear my Batty word, And exercise a little prudence When dealing with humans Quote
LastPommerFan Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) I knew I really liked the man's work, but I'm not certain I understood how much he meant to me until now. I'm honestly heartbroken by this news. Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Birdcage, Good Will Hunting, What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams, Insomnia... These are all movies I watched more than twice. We are losing great actors at a troubling pace this year. Edited August 12, 2014 by Glass Case Of Emotion Quote
drnkirishone Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Sad sad sad news. I gotta find my dvd of live on broadway Quote
Stoner Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 We were lucky to have his genius, and for so long. It's a minor miracle he lived this long. Quote
biodork Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Jesus. So unexpected... I knew he'd struggled with addiction but thought he'd come all the way back and was well. So sad. Quote
Weave Posted August 12, 2014 Author Report Posted August 12, 2014 Jesus. So unexpected... I knew he'd struggled with addiction but thought he'd come all the way back and was well. So sad. Worse. He struggled with mental illness. Watched An Evening with Robin Williams tonight. Bittersweet. Quote
biodork Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Worse. He struggled with mental illness. Watched An Evening with Robin Williams tonight. Bittersweet. Somehow I never knew that. The man was a brilliant chameleon, and like Philip Seymour Hoffman, gone too soon. :( Quote
darksabre Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Watching Hook did not make me feel better. Dustin Hoffman aside Williams carries that film. Which was kind of his MO. There's no upstaging him. Quote
Weave Posted August 12, 2014 Author Report Posted August 12, 2014 RIP you funny zany mofo This makes me sad and laugh at the same time. Usually celebrity deaths don't phase me at all. I am genuinely bummed tonight. I feel like I grew up laughing with him. Quote
DR HOLLIDAY Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 His forgotten Classic, the Fisher King, watch it guys……Was one of a kind and was in so many movies that people fell in love with the movie and him. Quote
Eric in Akron Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 I never saw Mrs. Doubtfire. I just watched it for the first time tonight, in honor of a great versatile actor/comedian. Quote
Claude_Verret Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 His forgotten Classic, the Fisher King, watch it guys……Was one of a kind and was in so many movies that people fell in love with the movie and him. Jeff Bridges was on Stern this morning and while listening on ny commute I told myself I'd watch one of his movies tonight. With the Robin Williams news it had to be The Fisher King, I just finished it on Netflix. Brilliant. Quote
