I'm sorry I'll take this time to rant about Soccer, Rochester and Donners undercapitalized sports ventures. The man never had enough money to basically do any of the business dealings he sought after. His poor financial situation led to the Sabres/Panthers/Amerks affiliation. The departure of the Sabres affiliation, the now busted defunct Sahlens stadium (due to a VERY vocal minority somehow convincing everyone we needed a new stadium for soccer that 15 west side Italians attend) and the absolute decimation of a proud and loyal hockey fan base. He destroyed it. Through crappy on ice products based on poor decisions made only to hold onto every penny rather than putting forth and good product to increase revenues.

In the now immortal sentiment of Andre Reed:

Steve Donner, ###### that guy.

I always expected Donner the Hutt to go the way of Pizza the Hutt - eating himself to death.

Someday when the obit for Amerk6 (or whatever the frig he called himself when self promoting/ lying) is written, it will be said that he had the wherewithal to get good (in theory) sporting projects off the ground in his hometown, but was faaaaaar too much of a putz to let his fat undercapitalized ass take a minority ownership share in any of them and let somebody else run them after he started them. And because of all that ####ing chutzpah, caused so many things that were institutions (Amerks) or should have been (ESL, "pro" soccer) to languish in squalor that he is remembered as an undercapitalized a-hat rather than the builder/visionary he could have & should have been.

Mortifying hubris, thy name is Jabba the Steve Donner the Hutt.

Loved this line: "Among Donner's listed possessions are 29.7 shares in the Knighthawks, with a listed value of zero."

Also, is that stadium really defunct? I thought that the women's soccer team, whatever it's called, plays there.

2 soccer teams play at Sahlen's Stadium and pretty sure the Rattlers play there as well.

ESL should have been as nice (nicer actually than the Pepsi Center) but Donner the Hutt's undercapitalization caused it to be a hole. Lots of substandard parts used and simple non-installation of other items that would typically be considered necessary to run a multirink complex.

Amerk6 old buddy, where are ya? :-)

Apparently in bankruptcy court in FLA.

Just Desserts: The only desserts he'll ever eat again.

You nuts? He eats more desserts before breakfast than most men eat in a week. ;)

He'll land on his feet. He's a poor mans Donald Trump.

Of course he will. Weebils wobble but they won't fall down.

While Donner had his problems that are well documented he also did some good for Rochester. If nothing else, he tried to improve Rochester sports. Unfortunately, it didn't always work out just right but at least he was taking a chance. That's more than can be said for 99.9% of the leaders that are in Rochester.

Look at how he left each of his projects. Saying "it didn't always work out just right but ..." is like coming home after your house got hit by a microburst and saying "well, at least we didn't flood."

His hubris gave him the juice to get these projects rolling; it also when combined with his undercapitalization caused many of them to ultimately fail. His defiantly blaming everyone but himself for his problems is emblematic of why ultimately Donner the Hutt failed.

After blowing his wad on that Calder Cup squad he cut corners EVERYWHERE to try to make the house of cards of an empire stand up a little longer. Had he been less selfish in needing to own all the projects, he could have been a real icon in town.
