That Aud Smell Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 "we confirmed through law enforcement sources that Vanek was at the court building Monday because he is connected to the on-going gambling investigation centered on the Marina Restaurant and Bar. Three men, including restaurant co-owners Paul Borrelli and Joseph Ruff are facing 23 counts of illegal gambling." any relation? How the heck does TV wind up being a witness to a gambling ring? good question. the most benign possible version of events: he got roped into something by someone he thought was trustworthy (he wasn't), TV didn't pay much attention to it, then got out when stuff got weird. there are many other possible versions of events. bcsaberks Posted July 21, 2014 Author Report Posted July 21, 2014 How the heck does TV wind up being a witness to a gambling ring? Must be his bookie from AHL days? Aud I don't think there's any relation to Lindy, at least not immediate (children, siblings). Quote
LastPommerFan Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) Was TV faking the injury in the bruins series because he was on the take? More at 11:00... Edited July 21, 2014 by Glass Case Of Emotion Quote
Bob Malooga Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) The news station in Rochester heard about FBI agents kicking down the door of the restaurant a month or so back. They said they were going to investigate and relay any other information...which is obviously what they did. Interesting though, saying "no comment," on the news right now...they say he IS connected to the Marina Restaurant gambling ring. *News channel 10 out of Rochester. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see the first link up top. Edited July 21, 2014 by Bob Malooga Quote

K-9 Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Was TV faking the injury in the bruins series because he was on the take? More at 11:00... It's much more effective when you put the FOX News spin on it: "Some people are wondering if Thomas Vanek was on the take when he sat out the series against the Bruins. Could he have faked an injury? Some people may think so." Quote
That Aud Smell Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Nathan Paetsch is a part-owner of the place that got busted. A Patches sighting. The theory emerges: Ask the guy with the biggest bank roll to support the sketchy bar/restaurant venture. Quote

Save your nonsensical babbling for the right thread. We have a politics thread here, if you want to showcase your stupidity. As for the situation at hand, in the immortal words of Bubbles, "what in the ####?!" As for the Ruffs: They are too old to be children; certainly they could be cousins or something. That Aud Smell Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 A prior report on the arrest of the suspects stated as follows: "The trio used multiple offshore Internet gambling websites to run their illegal business since January 2012, said the news release from the office of William Hochul, U.S. attorney for western New York. Authorities allege that the men gave gamblers an account and password that allowed them to place wagers on sporting events. The websites provided the spread and tallied the total won or lost by bettors, and cash payments were made later to settle wagers, according to the release." So, it seems possible that TV could also be a witness because he was wagering on sporting events? I still think a likely connection is Paestch, who may've asked Vanek to bank roll start-up/operations at some point. Then again, there's been no talk of Paestch being involved as a witness. Quote

My guess is Vanek's bets were likely larger than any of their 100s(?) of customers by a decimal point or two, so Feds call him in as a witness to help their case, rather than 20 guys betting $500. Sucks for him. Quote
