qwksndmonster Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Lol my name isn't even woody, it's Marc..... I've just used this username for years. Eleven, I gotta disagree with ya on the habs having the best logo, I think it suits them and is simple, but far from the best My dad is a doctor named Marc, too... Dad?? Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 My dad is a doctor named Marc, too... Dad?? same spelling too?? Crap I knew there was one out there I forgot about..... Seems I owe you some allowance and such Btw I hope sabres take #1, even tho they won't Quote
mudberry Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 I'm with Chicago too. They regularly win the kind of polls. The crazy amount of colors used is what usually puts it over the top. At this point is pick Arizona as my dark horse. There's just something about the simplicity of their uniforms in general which really won me over when they first came out. Arizona's are nice though I really liked their original logo Quote
shrader Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Arizona's are nice though I really liked their original logo The crazy acid trip jerseys with the talking space coyote from that Simpsons episode? Yeah, those were odd. Quote
Samson's Flow Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Well guys and gals, enjoy this little logo rankings top 5 finish while you can. It might be the only time 'Sabres' and 'Top 5' can be uttered in the same sentance for a while. Then again if Pheonix (ahem Arizona) and Dallas are still in it, I question the validity of the rankings. Unless of course you mean 'Top 5 pick' or 'Top 5 prospect class', which are inherently best of the worst type rankings. Quote
Eleven Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Unbelievable. The main issue with the Dallas logo is the D with its points look like some intern photoshopped that ###### thing on there. I mean some of the star points touch some partially touch, it looks like bad photo shop. I never noticed that before. You're right, it does look amateurish that way. Quote
shrader Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 I never noticed that before. You're right, it does look amateurish that way. It is there to give a 3D effect, to look like the D is hovering over the star. The black spaces where the two don't "touch" is essentially a shadow. I'm not crazy about the logo, but to say it looks amateur-ish is a bit overkill to me. Quote

shrader Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 It's a little farfetched to say it's overkill. Maybe I should have said over analyzing it. We need to remember that the intended view of these things is not on paper or a computer screen. These things are meant to be viewed on the front of a jersey with all of those flashy and reflective fabrics they use. They look so much different there. Quote

LGR4GM Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Well thankfully the Dallas Photoshops didn't make the top 5. Sorry I really hate their logo. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/nhl-logo-rankings-no-6-dallas-stars/ Quote
MattPie Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Well thankfully the Dallas Photoshops didn't make the top 5. Sorry I really hate their logo. http://www.thehockey...6-dallas-stars/ All things aside, the shadow is terrible. The light is coming from the upper-left, but along the bottom edge there's no shadow at all even though it should be a black line straight across. If you wanted to be extra-fancy, the shadow line could move up a little when it crosses the implied bevel on the star, but no shadow just looks wrong. I spent far too much time when I was younger playing with 3d-look bitmap icons and this is amateur hour. As someone said, it's like a photoshop where the people's shadows don't match the rest of the photo. Fix the shadow, and it's an OK logo. It may just be one of the best non-round logos. So who's left? Detroit, Phoenizona, BUFFALO!, Chicago and St. Loius. I don't see Buffalo coming in above 3rd on that list. Edited August 15, 2014 by MattPie Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Well thankfully the Dallas Photoshops didn't make the top 5. Sorry I really hate their logo. http://www.thehockey...6-dallas-stars/ Dallas got a pass on the Mooterus. That means we get a pass on the Slug. Or else Dallas is cheating again. Quote
Hoss Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 If they would flatten out that logo I would like it. I might shop it later to see what it looks like Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Dallas got a pass on the Mooterus. That means we get a pass on the Slug. Or else Dallas is cheating again. I find this extremely hilarious Quote
biodork Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Dallas got a pass on the Mooterus. That means we get a pass on the Slug. Or else Dallas is cheating again. LOL that's outstanding... the word alone cracks me up! Quote
Hoss Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 So I quickly redid Dallas' logo in a few different ways and this is what I got. I think they look ten times better this way. All white instead of white and grey bevel: All grey instead of white and grey bevel: Here's the two where I stripped the bevel from either the star or the D but left it on there other part: Quote
Claude_Verret Posted August 16, 2014 Author Report Posted August 16, 2014 So the Sabres are top five. Its just inconceivable how the slug ever saw the light of day.... Anyway, I'd put the Sabres 3rd/4th out of the remaining teams, I'm just not getting the Coyote love. Quote
Hoss Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 If Dallas would adopt the flattened logos I posted above then I would say that's a top ten logo. Quote
sabre snipe Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 played around a little for fun, got rid of some of the stupid shadows the logo has Quote
Randall Flagg Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 played around a little for fun, got rid of some of the stupid shadows the logo has I wouldn't rank the one on the left top ten, but I think it'd look much better than the current one. Quote
LGR4GM Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Here is where the Sabres slug ranked in 2008 by the Hockey News: http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/17432-THNcoms-NHL-Logo-Rankings.html Quote
Hoss Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 So what did the Avs logo do to the writer's sister between 2008 and this year? Quote
Claude_Verret Posted August 18, 2014 Author Report Posted August 18, 2014 On phone so can't link easily but the Sabres are #5. Quote
