(July 1, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Marcus Foligno to a two-year contract. Foligno (6'3", 223 lbs., 8/10/91) has played parts of three seasons with the Sabres since being drafted in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In 2013-14, Foligno played in 74 games, notching 19 points (7+12). During his three seasons as a pro, he has appeared in 135 career NHL games, recording 50 points (18+32). A Buffalo native and son of Sabres Hall of Famer Mike Foligno, he had a standout rookie season for the Sabres, during which he earned Rookie of the Month honors in March 2012 and finished in the top 10 among NHL rookies with 108 hits (4th), 41 PIM (6th) and 13 assists (T-8th). spndnchz Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 2 years? Interesting That way he'll still be a RFA Quote
inkman Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Bataglia signed him. Batitista? I know all the pasta eaters are hard to keep straight. Quote

MattPie Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Batitista? I know all the pasta eaters are hard to keep straight. EPIC JOKE FAIL. :( Quote
Weave Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 This thread gets no love with all the FA signings. Quote
darksabre Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 I like the terms. They say exactly what I feel about Foligno. He's got potential but he hasn't earned the big contract yet. Quote
LGR4GM Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 As far as I am concerned Foligno gets 2 years to prove himself. Last year he was invisible for long stretches. Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted July 1, 2014 Author Report Posted July 1, 2014 As far as I am concerned Foligno gets 2 years to prove himself. Last year he was invisible for long stretches. Hopefully it's attributable to the shoulder injury he sustained that required surgery. Quote
biodork Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Very nice. Long enough to find out if he's the real deal. Quote
Doohicksie Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 This is the best draft/FA day since... Well, probably ever. The best draft day is when they selected Perreault. Quote
nfreeman Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 The best draft day is when they selected Perreault. Best draft day, yes, but there was no real free agency back then. There have been other draft days that were full of optimism, but I don't think there's been another combined draft day/first day of free agency that has been this positive. Perhaps there'll be another one like it next year though. Quote
... Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Mmmmmmmm, I'm inclined to think they over-paid, and that Foligno is prospering from the Sabres need to insure they're over the floor. Like I've said many times, here's hoping Foligno proves me wrong. Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Poor Foligno. A guy that we all love and are pulling for, but so far has always left more to be desired. Quote

darksabre Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Shot: Sabres fans hate having a soft team. Chaser: Sabres fans are unhappy with the forward who had 206 hits last year. I don't care about hits. I care about whether he can win board battles and get the puck to his center. I care about his forechecking and puck pursuit. So far he hasn't given me enough in those areas to be satisfied. Quote
That Aud Smell Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 As others have noted, the 2-year term is a perfect fit for this guy. Who cares how much they gave him. Quote
