26CornerBlitz Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) @reporterchris Matt Moulson signs with #sabres, per @FriedgeHNIC. SABRES SIGN MOULSON TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Matt Moulson to a multi-year contract. Moulson (6’1″, 200 lbs., 11/1/83) re-joins the Sabres after finishing the 2013-14 season with 13 points (6+7) in 20 regular-season games and three points (1+3) in 10 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a member of the Minnesota Wild. Originally acquired by the Sabres on Oct. 27, 2013 in a trade with the New York Islanders, Moulson registered 29 points (11+18) in 44 games with the Sabres in the 2013-14 season, before being traded to the Wild along with Cody McCormick in exchange for Torrey Mitchell and two draft picks. He led the Sabres in both goals and points at the time of the trade. A native of North York, Ontario, Moulson was selected by Pittsburgh in the ninth round (263rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with Los Angeles in 2007-08. In 397 regular-season games in seven seasons spent with the Kings, Islanders, Sabres and Wild, Moulson has recorded 275 points (141+134), adding six points (3+3) in 16 playoff games. Moulson ranks 13th among NHL players with 135 goals since his first full NHL season in 2009-10 and has scored 30 goals three times in his five full NHL seasons. TrueBlueGED Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 If we sign Moulson we're going to be too good next year. We finished 14 points out of 29th with him/Vanek most of the year. Plus the other possible tankers are all getting better today. In the tank we trust! Quote
Johnny DangerFace Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Wooooooot! We aren't going to be that bad if our young guns take a step forward Quote
That Aud Smell Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 There's poetic symmetry to the fact that he's coming back at 5x5. Quote
LTS Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Clearly every FA hates coming to Buffalo! He makes a huge statement. He's here for part of the year. Gets traded away and CHOOSES to come back to a team in the position of Buffalo. Huge... huge signing. Loving it! Quote
Rico7 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Sweet! GMTM is thoroughly embarrassing Darcy today. Quote
nobody Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Happy to hear this one. Now if only they can trade away Stafford.... Quote
dudacek Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Moulson Reinhart Gionta Foligno Ennis Stafford Hodgson Girgensons Stewart Mitchell McCormick Kaleta Flynn Larsson That's probably as good as we want to be up front. Quote
Claude_Verret Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 A more interesting tank. We all win. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 I love me some MattyMo. Welcome back! Quote

OTOH, Matty will be 31 in November and had 17 goals in 64 games last year, plus a real injury. I can live with the $5MM per year, but the 5-year term does concern me a little. Quote
korab rules Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 5x5? I don't care about the money now, but I don't want to be using 5 mil of cap space on this guy in 5 years. I give this deal two thumbs down. Quote
