Wow. He'll be 30 this summer and is 6'1", 200 lbs, under contract for 4 more years at $3.9MM per year, has played over 20 min per game for the Habs for SIX years in a row and doesn't score, fight or take penalties. So a stay-home veteran defenseman with a ton of experience -- which is definitely something this D group needs -- at a pretty low price.

One thing about Gorges is I've never seen him take a bad penalty. He's smart. Bad news for webber though.

He is everything we hoped Mike would be.

Still plenty of room for Webby in the top 6 or 7, innit?

Myers-Gorges

Pysyk-?

Weber-?

?

I suppose all 3 slots could be taken by Risto, Nikita and Rudy, but I think that is pretty unlikely.

This. Gorges is a better Weber. Montreal fans are pissed. Was listening to NHL radio yesterday and they were interviewing a guy who has covered the Habs for the past 8 years (can't remember the reporters name)... he gushed about Gorges.

We'll sign another defenseman, but hard to predict who that might be. Probably someone more offensive-minded (?).

BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 1, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Josh Gorges from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Minnesota’s second-round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The pick was previously acquired on March 5, 2014 from the Minnesota Wild along with Torrey Mitchell and a second-round pick in 2014 in exchange for Matt Moulson and Cody McCormick.

Gorges (6’1”, 201 lbs., 8/14/84) appeared in 66 games for the Canadiens in 2013-14, recording 14 points (1+13) and 12 penalty minutes. In 560 NHL games spent with the Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks, the defenseman has amassed 98 points (14+84) and 249 penalty minutes.

A native of Kelowna, British Columbia, Gorges has also appeared in 68 NHL playoff games, totaling nine assists and 35 penalty minutes.
