Brawndo
3 1st rounders in '15 for Nathan Gerbe. Better throw in a second rounder as well to make sure the deal gets done
thewookie1
The only bad contracts that could be targeted for a trade and don't have any NTC that I found on capgeek: Marc Savard BOS (3 yrs, $4M) = 2015 1st rounder David Jones CAL (2 yrs, $4M) = 2015 2nd rounder Alexander Semin CAR (4 yrs, $7M) = 2015 1st rounder and a 2016 2nd rounder Jean-Michael Liles CAR (2 yrs, $3.8M) = 2015 2nd rounder PA Parenteau COL (2 yrs, $4M) = 2015 2nd rounder Johan Franzen DET (6 yrs, $4M) = 2015 1st rounder, 2016 2nd rounder and a 2017 2nd rounder Anti Niemi SJ (1 yr, $3.8M). = 2015 3rd rounder Ondrej Pavelec WPG (3 yrs, $3.9M) = 2015 1st rounder. My asking price in a general sense Edited June 30, 2014 by thewookie1

Warriorspikes51
Now that Darcy is in Arizona, perhaps he can influence getting a few of his own players. to AZ: Myers, Hodgson, Armia, Stafford to BUF: Yandle, 2015 1st - Buffalo then would need to add cap space. Some options would be signing Steve Ott or Dany Heatley trading for Vinny L, Patrick Marleau, Kris Letang, Sergei Gonchar etc..... Neo
Flyers: Luke Adam and a 2016 2nd for Pronger (LTIR 3 years 4.9) + Vinny L (4 years 4.5) + 2015 1st Do Pronger and Vinny go into the Hall of Fame as Sabres?
Warriorspikes51
That's a horrible return. Darcy did always know how to win a trade, though. Yandle >>> Myers. Their 1st could be top 5.
Eleven
Yandle >>> Myers. Their 1st could be top 5. Yandle's first three years in the league are very similar to Hodgson's (Yandle's first year wasn't as good, but the other two are nearly square with CoHo). So those two even out. You're now trading Myers and Stafford (and you know I want him gone!) for a first round pick. And I don't think it will be in the top 5, either, especially after you stock that team with these three players. Where the price for Myers alone has been described as "three pieces," I think you're selling these three guys way too short. And Yandle becomes a UFA in 2016, too, just when the team should be starting to get good. Edited July 5, 2014 by Eleven
Hoss
I'm with Eleven. I'd like to see some trade ideas without 2015 firsts, because I think we're done getting them. We've already got three and teams aren't really lining up to trade them.

We've already got three and teams aren't really lining up to trade them. Especially true for the 1sts we'd actually be interested in--those from bubble teams or worse. We could probably get a 1st in some sort of deal from a team like LA, but that holds significantly less appeal.
thewookie1
How about Rozsival or Oduya and Chi's 1st rounder for a throwaway player and pick. If Darcy wants some of his guys back, Stafford and Hodgson for Phx's 1st
Hoss
Let's not forget Darcy is the assistant GM. He's not going to be running the show.
inkman
Let's not forget Darcy is the assistant GM. He's not going to be running the show. ...and not for nothin he knows more than anyone how flawed those players are. He won't be advocating seeking them out. The premise is.... Not plausible. Bob Malooga
Do people, or did people, honestly believe a team would give up their 2015 1st round pick...just for Buffalo to take a player from them? If they did make such a trade, that GM should be fired immediately...and as a fan of that team, I'd be furious! Darryl Shannon's +/-
Ah yes all those available high scoring centers that want to come to Buffalo. High scoring centers need to be drafted. And we're well on that path. Crucify me, but Darcy was a genius to start this tear down.

No, Darcy is a tear down specialist. He certainly could build a team, but no one beats him in tearing them down. That Vanek trade is the stuff of legends. I even believe Darcy would've bagged a better haul than TM last trade deadline. Edited July 6, 2014 by kas23

I like Risto and Zadorov but he didn't dismantle the team enough and it cost them the best player to come out of a draft since Kane.

My larger point is that any center worth anything is not available through either FA or trade. But 3 1st round picks in next years draft (w/ two assumed in top 5) along with #2 overall this year is a really nice way to build up a squad. Then count random luck w/ our bounty of 2nd rounders, and it's difficult to assume we'll be in the shape of Edmonton. Murray's value should be based on which players he deems are worth trading in the next 4-5 years. If we do this right, we should be trading the promising players who aren't cornerstones to restock the team and keep this farm system rolling. Chicago did this w/ Byfuglien and others.....hopefully we are in the same spot. With a supportive owner and this bounty of picks....this has to be a dream job. I should have used the sarcasm emoticon ;) Think of the extra cap space the Sabres can use to get a center that can actually play center? This! Completely agree, having a center who can net 60% or better on face offs would be nice along with scoring.

GMTM can just pluck a couple off the high faceoff percentage high scoring center tree.
