Not official just yet but BUF has begun the process. Looks like I'll be eating a nice crow this morning. Did not think this was possible. The spending will have to increase this offseason even more. Brawndo Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 The cap recapture must have them handcuffed when it comes to trading him. Quote
bunomatic Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Is it April 1st ? Murrays unable to move this guy ? Quote
Lanny Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 If someone claims him on waivers they're stuck with the recapture penalty all the same. Quote
Hoss Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 The obvious: @TSNBobMcKenzie: I'm sure @capgeek will have details but BUF obviously feared potential cap recapture penalties if Ehrhoff retired before contract expired. Quote
nfreeman Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 I don't like this move. Jettisoning a real NHL defenseman because there might be a cap hit in 5 or 6 years? It's too clever, and too cautious, by half. Quote
nfreeman Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Will anyone get crabby if these 2 threads are merged? Stay tuned to this developing soap opera... Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Ehrhoff has a no movement clause so does that mean he can't be put on waivers? Quote
LastPommerFan Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 If someone claims him on waivers they're stuck with the recapture penalty all the same. Doesn't his NMC play into that somehow? Wouldn't he have to approve the claim? Quote
Hoss Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 Will anyone get crabby if these 2 threads are merged? Stay tuned to this developing soap opera... No. They obviously should be haha. Quote
bunomatic Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 We have the cap space obviously but is GMTM getting ready to bring in a ufa defenceman to fill this spot ? Quote
Lanny Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Doesn't his NMC play into that somehow? Wouldn't he have to approve the claim? Thats right, thanks Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Doesn't his NMC play into that somehow? Wouldn't he have to approve the claim? Which he wouldn't do because he can get double the pay by clearing and then betting resigned. Quote

Hoss Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) I think Ehrhoff will end up getting more on the open market than he was making in Buffalo. @JoeYerdonPHT: How bad does Darcy Regier look now for the summer of 2011? Leino and Ehrhoff both bought out. Good point. Edited June 29, 2014 by Tankalicious Quote
North Buffalo Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Battle of the threads.... this is funny. Quote

With his choice of teams to go to, I highly doubt the Islanders will be his ultimate destination.. Quote

Taro T Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 My guess would be that Ehrhoff has expressed a strong desire to be out of here and that the Sabres expect him to play like he did at the EoY in which case they're (marginally) better off w/out him. Since the contract makes him untradeable, out he goes. I now expect his NMC keeps him off waivers - otherwise this makes very little sense. Quote
nobody Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 It does clean the future books to get all these future top picks resigned, I guess. Quote
