The Sabres have the 6th best winning percentage in NHL history overall.

I did a litte research back in 2009 that showed they were, at that time, something like 7th in the four major sports in all-time winning percentage.

They've been a good franchise to root for. But they've won a lot without winning much, ya know?

I think people get too hung up on lack of champeenships. I'm a little tadpole Buffalo fan compared to most, though, so what right do I have to say so?

I mean nobody actually cares who has the highest winning percentage. Banners and shiny trophies is all that truly matters in the end.

It's the Superbowls. It broke everyone. Winning was nothing. Winning games was what you did in your spare time on Sundays in November. The Trophy was all that mattered.

Notre Dame overtook Michigan in all time winning percentage last year or the year before. I don't care. All I care is that we have 0 important wins since 1993.

Exactly, I wasn't around to be broked. I enjoy having a bunch of broken peers, though.

I agree. Just saying, this organization is and has been far from dysfunctional.

See, I can't keep track of all you people. I never took you for a youngen. Little tadpole eh? Don't worry, son, it'll grow.

I can keep track of you. You're that one old man, the one with the butthole.

wut.

I thought it falls off

That only happened to you because you played with it.

(DIDN'T YOU???)

He did start a thread about it being invaded.

Like the Nazis into Poland. I'm glad you clarified the quip. I was about to google it to see if I missed some cultural reference. Pretty sure that wasn't going to end well.

So through 30 games for most teams, who do we think are the leaders for the big awards?

My picks:

Vezina is an easy one with Pekka Rinne dominating.

Calder is an easy one with Filip Forsberg putting up a PPG.

Hart is a tough one. Sid is always in the conversation.

Seguin leading the league in points. Rinne would be the leader but it's doubtful his stats keep up.

Jack Adams? Has to be Laviolette.

If the Islanders manage to defy nature and not Garth-up the season, I think Capuano will be in the conversation for the Adams. The "big turn around" always seems to garner some votes there.

Possibly. Depends on where they finish. If they're close then it'd be ridiculous if it wasn't Laviolette. He's coaching a band of misfits. Capuano is coaching an extremely talented group of underachievers.

I'd argue "the big turnaround" is the only thing that garners votes these days. I suppose the coach of a juggernaut can get some too. But the guys where coaching probably matters most, the marginal teams doing well, seem to always get ignored. The work Babcock has done sans-Lidstrom, with significant injuries to Zetterberg and Datsyuk, and a bunch of kids was incredible. Yet Patrick "unsustainable" Roy runs away with it.

Most of the awards wind up going with stupid trends like this, kind of like the Norris. Some day they will create an award that can actually go do a defenseman who actually plays defense. Far too often they just hand it to the highest scorer out there.
