darksabre Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Firing Eakins is the right move. He has failed to install any kind of system on that team. Quote
Hoss Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Should've been fired a couple weeks ago but methinks MacTavish was feeling the tank. Likely realized that if the team doesn't start winning he won't be around to flourish with McEichel. Also: hate when media members immediately say something like "tough break for Eakins, he's a good coach." The team lost 400 games in a row. I do believe management is more to blame than him, but he certainly didn't get anything out of that group. Edited December 15, 2014 by Tank Quote
That Aud Smell Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Counting the "four major" sports leagues in North America (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL), I think the Oilers are, hands down, the most dysfunctional pro sports franchise. Unreal. Quote
josie Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Firing Eakins is the right move. He has failed to install any kind of system on that team. I agree. I'm not in Edmonton, but you gotta wonder if anyone would be effective when the franchise is onto their 6th head coach in 7 years. Head coaches quickly become scapegoats up there. Goalies get the rap for terrible defense, and kids can't lead kids in an NHL environment. What a mess. So uh, Torts, you wanna take a shot? MacLean? Quote
Brawndo Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Counting the "four major" sports leagues in North America (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL), I think the Oilers are, hands down, the most dysfunctional pro sports franchise. Unreal. And one that is going to be handed another Generational Talent in June. The anolamy is that the Oilers D has improved this year as the number of shots they have given up is down. Their goalies have given up the same number of goals though. If they made a trade for a goaltender, their number of wins should climb. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Maybe now they get the "new coach spark." Although. I saw Eakins as probably the fourth biggest problem on that team after no defense, no goaltending, and no GM to fix those two. Quote

I saw Eakins as probably the fourth biggest problem on that team after no defense, no goaltending, and no GM to fix those two. Scrivens and Fasth should be performing better than they are, and with the weapons that team has on offense, it should be winning games 4-3 and 5-4. It's not like the cupboard is bare in Edmonton. LGR4GM Posted December 15, 2014 Author Report Posted December 15, 2014 Edmonton is a soft team full of soft players with no accountability. Changing the coach won't help much. Quote
LGR4GM Posted December 15, 2014 Author Report Posted December 15, 2014 So this came out about the Voynov case: Officer: Voynov pushed wife to ground multiple times, kicked her repeatedly while on ground, choked her three times. Quote
Hoss Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Yea, he's getting deported if this turns out to be true. Talent wasted by ignorance and violence. Quote
LGR4GM Posted December 15, 2014 Author Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) From a reporter at the hearing... Nathan Fenno I can only catch quick glimpses of photos of the injuries to Voynov's wife. Lots of blood. In Edmonton news Bob McKenzie Todd Nelson will be taking over on an interim basis from now until end of the year, after brief transition period with MacT on bench. darksabre Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 The Oilers need Ron Rolston. Quote

LGR4GM Posted December 15, 2014 Author Report Posted December 15, 2014 Voynov case is going to trial. Judge ruled there was enough evidence to proceed and denied the defenses motion to reduce it to a misdemeanor. Quote

josie Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 So this came out about the Voynov case: Officer: Voynov pushed wife to ground multiple times, kicked her repeatedly while on ground, choked her three times. And slammed her face into a flat screen TV. If anyone signs that man (and I hope it doesn't happen, I don't think it will), I could never root for that team again. My opinion of the Kings has already plummeted with their little "sneak him onto the ice for practice" stunt. Lombardi, "''My biggest concern is that if he is charged with a felony, this one incident could jeopardize Slava's entire career.''" Oh, poor baby. Quote
darksabre Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 I wonder if they hire Paul MacLean. That would be a brilliant move. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Seems like the right timing for that, although it's weird that they said they'd wait until the end of the year to hire...? Quote
X. Benedict Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 I wonder who will jump out of the KHL next year. The dollar has doubled against the ruble since the summer. I wonder if a guy like Jan Kovar, a 24 year old Czech, would jump leagues. Quote

It's definitely neither the Oilers nor the Sabres. The Oilers playoff drought is longer than that of the cubs, in a league with far more playoff spots. The Bucks have made the playoffs twice in the last 5 seasons, and have not drafted #1 overall in 10 years. The Bucks aren't event the worst run NBA team! Hhhheeeelllllooooo Minnesota! Much worse. Minnesota's ability to draft poorly and then trade that player for an even worse player knows no bounds. Edited December 16, 2014 by Glass Case Of Emotion Quote
