Seguin and Eaves leaving the game with injuries within one minute of each other. Kulikov went for a hip check and got Seguin on the knee on his planted leg, didn't look good. Then Eaves gets hit in the side of the head with a puck. He was on the ice for 5 minutes and had to be carried of by a couple of his teammates. He definitely looked concussed.

Nasty hit on Seguin. Went waaaay low on the 'hip check.' Horrible technique; wouldn't be surprised if a suspension is coming.

That's going to put a damper on their playoff hopes.

Here's the puck to the head of Eaves.

Geez, that's some rough stuff. Eaves certainly didn't seem to be all there on the ice.

At least it's front loaded...kind of. Goes from $8 mil/year to $5.5 mil/year by 2020, or a $500k annual decrease. Still, a $7 mil/year cap hit for him is absurd, I have no idea how they try and unload that. Kessel's even worse, at a cap hit of $8 mil/year and $54 million still owed to him until 2023

They're going to get fleeced on any trade they have involving those players, but ownership sounds determined to rid the ship of the old crew.

I'd take Kessel and that contract in a  heartbeat. One of the premier scorers in the NHL and he is still only 27, sign me up.

The cap # is not even an issue for 3 years, and even then, most of the talent is still RFA. I'd take Kessel and worry about 2019 in 2018.

Dangerous dangerous play. I don't think he hit his knee directly, but where he hits the upper leg almost guarantees that the knee buckles sideways.

The league is too busy celebrating these as "hip checks" because no one even remembers what a hip check looks like anymore.

In an interview Mike Robitaille said that he injured alot of knees, and broke a couple legs, with the hip checks he used to throw.  You have to get them just right.  Even the real pros at hip checks got them wrong and injured people.

lol that's because of all the interference the league now allows.  Note that Dallas' response is weak as hell. If that happened to Reinhart, I expect everyone on the ice to drop gloves and try and murder Kulikov.

That is nasty, and unnecessary. I love a good hipper, but that is low and dirty.

There's your clipping call. Someone mentioned fairly recently they had never seen it called, or even heard of it. He gave him the business down there.

I remember when Risto did the same move and everybody celebrated it. I even think D4rk said that Risto was going to revive the hip check after the play. The irony.

EDIT: I lied. Mixed two hits up. The hit that D4rk said that on was a nice clean hip check by Risto on Mike Green back in November.

Leino demoted. No longer in the KHL...

Rough for Ville Leino. No longer with Zagreb in the KHL. Going over to NLA’s Kloten Flyers. http://t.co/srYBN3Bcjn

Ristolainen's hip check was perfect and not even remotely the "same move".

Read the edit.

But I do remember a Sabres player doing a very similar move and people praising it.

Thanks I was trying to find the gif of it.  Risto hits him much higher, Kulikov's principle point of contact is the knee.

No big. I'm glad you brought it up. I love watching that Risto hipcheck.

Plus, the cap will be what, $8 -$10+ million higher by that point. We have seen over and over again that a big part of opportunity is timing, like the Kane deal. If Kessel hits the trade market the Sabres need to jump on it and not hope there will be another Kessel level player available down the road. Put him in some blue & gold and slap the 'C' on his chest for the next 8 - 10 years.

I want Kessel too, but I don't want that little caveman to be our captain.  It'll be Zemgus soon enough.

You are going to have to find it, because the only one I remember is the hit on Girgs in the Tampa game that PA was referencing when I said I had never heard of clipping. Not sure anyone was praising that hit.

Girgensons has a long way to go to earn that honor. I'm against just handing the 'C' to guys, I like the idea of putting the 'C' on guys that have earned their stripes in the NHL. It's why I like Gionta with the 'C' now.

That's fair.  I still think Zemgus will get it from Gionta 2/3 years from now.

###### call on Hamilton leads to Ottawa power play goal.  1-0 bad guys.

There's some merit to telling the team that it's Girgensons's team.  Kind of like what they did with Schoeny.
