LGR4GM Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) The NHL draft is roughly 31 hours away. NHL free agent frenzy is in full swing and there are a host of things that are about to go on this summer. Time for the new 2014-2015 Thread. Edited June 26, 2014 by LGR4GM Quote
spndnchz Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 So it's like celebrating New Year's eve on the 29th? Maybe we open a Fourth of July thread? :flirt: Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 26, 2014 Author Report Posted June 26, 2014 So it's like celebrating New Year's eve on the 29th? Maybe we open a Fourth of July thread? :flirt: Wouldn't it be more like celebrating New Year's eve on the 30th? Ya know because it has 31 days in the month? Quote
That Aud Smell Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Man, lock this thread DOWN, mods! Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 26, 2014 Author Report Posted June 26, 2014 Bob McKenzie Eric Gryba agrees to 2-year deal with OTT. $1.2M and $1.3M. Quote
Bob Malooga Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 Is today the first day of the 2014-15 season or something? These threads are quite confusing...why wouldn't the Gryba signing go in the "free agency" thread? (Not trying to be a jerk or anything, at all...just trying to understand how this works, it's VERY different from OBD.) Quote

darksabre Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 I don't understand the issue. Historically this is exactly when we start the new season thread. Quote
Randall Flagg Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 I don't understand the issue. Historically this is exactly when we start the new season thread. Yeah, the 2013-14 thread started two days before this one, last year, actually Quote
Hoss Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 I don't understand the issue. Historically this is exactly when we start the new season thread. I'm the thread police apparently, and I didn't even bring my handcuffs to this thread. Don't see an issue with it. The moves being made are going to impact 14-15. 13-14 is history (I know it'll be official on the 1st). Quote

That really is the changing of the season. Quote
Hoss Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 How about when ufa courting period begins, the thread may shift over. That really is the changing of the season. I mean that's fine with me. I don't really care what the number at the Around the NHL thread says as long as we don't have to go to seven threads to discuss stuff. This thread and the Free agent frenzy thread should be pinned. This thread would be for trades, coaching and front office stuff. Contract extensions, too. Quote

Hoss Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 yea and RFA stuff. Kinda why I put the Ottawa stuff in here. Well RFA stuff should still go in the free agent frenzy thread, but small moves likely won't be mentioned there so guys like Gryba can fall here. Quote
Brawndo Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 Another Sabres Effect? Teams will have to give a draft pick another organization when hiring a Coach, GM or Director of Hockey Ops etc. http://www.thescore.com/news/527880 Quote

drnkirishone Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 gonna be a lot harder to get good support staff to sign contracts if this happens. can just about forget experienced guys as asst coaches and asst gm positions Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 One year removed from a lockout, a full year to get the fans back, a little bit of financial stabilty................................. Can't they just leave well enough alone for a while?#@#!@$@!#@##! Quote
X. Benedict Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 This seems like such an inauspicious start to what should be a proud, mighty thread. I want a do-over. Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) @FriedgeHNIC Today, NHL also approved compensation for a team losing someone hired to be head coach, GM or President/Hockey Ops with another club Generally, we're talking a third-round draft pick, and the club doing the hiring will have a window of three years to give it up. @DarrenDreger Cap teams are getting nervous as NHL-NHLPA continue discussions on next years salary cap. Less than $70 mil will be problematic for many. Edited June 27, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz Quote
BuffaloBorn Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 On WGR there's a column about Draisaitl being a German player. and it says Jochen Hecht and Christian Erhoff are two "former" German Sabres he knows. FORMER? Erhoff's being traded and gr knows :o Quote
LGR4GM Posted June 27, 2014 Author Report Posted June 27, 2014 Not surprised Berglund got an extension. He is a decent player for the blues. 3.7mil is also a decent rate per year. Quote

Basically any sport where music is playing while the action is going. Edited June 27, 2014 by Eleven Quote
