Crusader1969
In my mind Konecny and Zacha are both gone when the Isles pick comes up. In that scenaro and going into the season I favor Strome. Strome will see some time with McDavid this year so his numbers will be questioned but he is 6'3" 187lbs as a 17yr old. He skates well and I hear good things about his shot. He is one of my guys to watch. I also really like Zacha but I think he will be drafted 3-5th overall and we will not be picking there most likely. Konecny needs a growth spurt for me to draft him but that is on my own personal taste and I could see the Sabres interested in him. He just reminds me a bit of bigger more talented tyler ennis. Don't leave Mitch Marner out of the conversation, I have a feeling he is going to play himself into top 5 territory - now that he will be getting first line and PP minutes with the Knights (assuming Domi and Horvat make the NHL)

Only mild surprise I can see is Zboril being ranked at 15 - highest I have seen him to this point. Czech import about to start his first season with Saint John. dudacek
So if I am to believe the hype machine this draft has a legitimate: Crosby in McKinnon Malkin in Eichel Lidstrom in Hanifan Karlsson in Kylington Jamie Benn in Zacha And it has at least five other centres with questions marks, but also first-line potential: A Ron Francis-type in Strome Tyler Ennis on Viagra in Konecny A lower-case Yzerman in White A lower-case Sakic in Marner And a Gretzky-style playmaker in Barzal We should add one and likely two of these guys to our excellent pipeline next June. And that is why nobody should be saying its McEichel or bust.

Eichel is silky smooth I will murder you to get to the net, with a great shot. Reminds me more of Getzlaf.
respk
It is McEichel or bust. If we draft any lower than second, something went terribly wrong during the season.
Rasmus_
If we draft any lower than second, something went terribly wrong during the season. It would be if --- Michal Neuvirth stands on his head, Matt Moulson has 35 goals, Ennis turns somehow into a semi legitimate first line center and puts up 65-70 points (unlikely) and Stewart stays healthy with a chip on his shoulder and puts up 30. This is a pipe dream version of what could happen if all the cards fell in the right path. Realistically we'll be playing into the where oh where does Buffalo pick 1 or 2. Hoss
If we're around the bottom at the deadline and don't sell off what pieces we reasonably can (Stafford, Stewart, Meszaros and maybe even Myers if we get a ridiculous offer) then I'll assume the fetal position and cry. Derrico
I would think Murray would sell at the deadline for sure if that were to happen. He mentioned it in interviews about last year and then followed through so I don't have any reason to think he wouldn't.
SabresBillsFan
I can see Murray moving Stafford, Stewart and Meszaros at the deadline. At least one or two of them.
Hoss
It we're sitting really deep in the bottom of the league I could see a surprise like Ennis and/or Hodgson being moved because Murray would then be confident that we can land a forward that would come in immediately, plus all the prospects that will likely be ready in 2015. dudacek
I'm not so certain about Ennis and Hodgson (if Samson and Zemgus shine maybe one, but not both), and especially not Myers, at least not for picks. Murray wants to be competitive in 2015/16 and he won't be with no one on his team between the ages of 22 and 29 except Mike Weber.

I don't think the Myers chatter will go away until he's gone or we're competitive.

Two or less
We should add one and likely two of these guys to our excellent pipeline next June. And that is why nobody should be saying its McEichel or bust. Good post. The 2015 draft is loaded and if the Sabres prospects pan out for the most part, they can get away without picking either McDavid or Eichel and be fine. But, the reality of the team is, we will finish no higher then 5th worse. Probably in the 2-4 range. If they have another bad season and some prospects start to show bust-effects (Armia?), it will be a tough pill to swallow drafting 4th. In the long run, it could be ok but it will be a major buzz kill to the rebuild process.

SabresBillsFan
I'll cry if we don't get the first pick... I'll be pissed but it wouldn't shock me. I would be happy with Eichel. Here's a crazy question. If we end up with the 3rd - 7th pick this year would you try and yes I know most teams wouldn't even think twice about a trade but would you trade all 3 1st rounders, both 2nd's, next year's 1st and 2nd to whoever gets the 1st overall pick? I know players like him only come around once in awhile but a trade like that could be like a Quebec trade with Philly did for Lindros. It helped out both teams. Of course we know how it all played out but both teams went to the cup. Edited September 16, 2014 by SabresBillsFan
