Alexander Ovechkin just got injured, had to be helped off the ice, early reports. Knee injury.

I read it was the right knee. I believe impacts hyperextend muscles and ligaments much easier than simply overexerting.

Makes sense, as his right skate is off the ice at the point of impact.

 

The impact itself is still massive though.

 

Good for Ovi though.

 

I get the feeling a blown knee would've impaired his skating some going forward, and seeing as explosiveness is a big part of his game, losing even 5% could mean a lot.
