darksabre Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Great read. And he's right, it's true in all areas. If you hate what you're doing find a way to do something else. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Great perspective from a player selected outside the first two rounds. You don't hear those stories first-hand that often. Some good takeaways from that one. Quote
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Soooo.......what does this dude actually do that he loves? Quote

carpandean Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Unfortunately, no matter how much you enjoy doing something, when it becomes a job, it becomes "work". There are pressures, politics, demands, etc., that come along with being paid that make it nearly impossible to be just fun. My first real job was a dream situation; a kid in a candy shop. It became work pretty quickly. That said, he wasn't being asked to be a skill player anymore, but was instead risking his long-term health (especially with concussions), so it's understandable why he walked away. Quote
Weave Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 It seems I've read this story before. I swear it's been posted here in the past, maybe a few months ago? Quote

Weave Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 I think so too. Maybe even earlier than a few months. I think it pre-dated the return of Ted Nolan. I recall reading the article and thinking of Drew Stafford. Quote

MILFHUNTER#518 Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 It is much easier for most of us to put the political aspect of a job like that in perspective and keep our nose to the grindstone than a 20 year old college kid. I remember having that type of point of view when I was his age... Quote
Johnny DangerFace Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 i NEED to know if this article was posted in a different thread so then we could all yell at promo for creating this thread when its being discussed ELSEWHERE....er.... somewhere...maybe. Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Weird that he didn't mention his hearing impairment in that article. "Sutch, the Sarnia Sting’s rookie wrecking ball, was born with what doctors term “severe to profound” hearing loss. He uses a hearing aid in each ear to help amplify sound, but finds that once he’s on the ice his biggest asset is his finely honed hockey sense." http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/2008/11/27/hearing_impairment_helps_hone_ohlers_desire.html Quote

Bob Malooga Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) It's kind of like Jason Bonsignore all over again. Only difference is, Bonsignore was drafted much higher, 4th overall to be exact. He went from sure-fire stud, to a total bust. http://kuklaskorner.com/index.php/hockey/comments/jason_bonsignore_-_i_feel_like_i_let_everyone_in_edmonton_down *EDIT: Here is another good read about him, mentions how Kevin Prendergast was really there for him and tried to help him. http://oilersnation.com/2011/9/1/an-epic-rant-jason-bonsignore-on-his-failed-days-with-the-edmonton-oilers Edited May 4, 2014 by Bob Malooga Quote

That, and driving all around Rochester in his (then) brand new Dodge Viper. Quote

While I can't comment on the booger sugar, (like he'd be the first rich athlete to like the smell of it) if a dodge viper was his version of big timing it, I'm glad buffalo didn't have the chance to draft him. Idk. I remember older kids that I knew who hung out with him telling me that he was heavy into the nose candy, and was seriously neglecting doing any conditioning or working out after he got his money.
