Peppy22 Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Alexander Sulzer goes back to Germany and has signed a 5y contract with the Cologne Sharks. So he will not be back. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks for the update Peppy. It's almost like he was never here, though. Like two ships that pass in the night. Quote

MattPie Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 If you're Sulzer, you see the writing on the wall that you're not going to beat out Myers, Ehrhoff, Weber (?), Ruhwedel, Pysyk, Risto, Zadorov, McBain (??), or McCabe for a job. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 I'm sure this is a case of the team telling him he wasn't in their plans. Good luck to Alex. Cologne is one of my favorite cities. Quote
Peppy22 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 I thought they might re-sign him because they would rather sit him as a 7th guy than a young guy who would need playing time. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 I thought they might re-sign him because they would rather sit him as a 7th guy than a young guy who would need playing time. I sort of see Hank Tallinder transitioning into the role of veteran 7th d-man with Risto and Pysyk on the Sabres next year. Quote
Crusader1969 Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 who will be upset if Risto, Pysyk and McCabe start in Rochester next year? Quote
tom webster Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 who will be upset if Risto, Pysyk and McCabe start in Rochester next year? Risto and Pysyk. It might make sense for the organization but these decisions cost these guys money. If the guys deserve to be here, then they should be here. Quote
shrader Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Risto and Pysyk. It might make sense for the organization but these decisions cost these guys money. If the guys deserve to be here, then they should be here. Any reason why you left McCabe off that list? Quote
Campy Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Good luck, Alex. And yep, I too believe he knew - whether he was told or saw it coming - that he wouldn't be in the plans going forward. Quote
dudacek Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Sulzer was a good, if limited, soldier. Wish him the best. McCabe, Ruhwedel, Zadorov, Pysyk and Risto should be competing for two or three spots next year. Myers, Ehrhoff, Weber and one or two veteran acquisitions (hopefully upgrades on Tallinder and McBain) will fill the others. Quote
Crusader1969 Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Im going to Trust Tim Murray and the organization to make the right call on these guys and ensure they do what is best for the future development of all the young players. My preference would be to make Rochester as strong as possible next year and dominate the AHL. Let them take a serious run at the Calder Cup in 2014-15. After some success there we can see who dererves to play on the Sabres in 15-16. Quote
Peppy22 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 I think SUlz was that very reliable 7th man. He wouldn't demand a spot, he wouldn't go to the media complaining about it. He would do his job if needed and did that in a great way. The injuries really blew his chances here. Could have been a solid 5th or 6th dmen however with all those prospects no room for him in Buffalo. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 I'd love to see McBain not tendered as an RFA and a veteran brought in in his stead, especially if we go with a couple of rookies next year. Quote
inkman Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 At least I won't have to hear people add 17 z's and t's to his name anymore Quote
X. Benedict Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 I hereby nominate him to the Hall of Okay Sabres 7th Defensemen. Nolan Pratt will give the presentation speech. Quote

IKnowPhysics Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 He's a Sabre that did the best job he could. Never saw any lack of effort on his part. I hope he has fun playing in the homeland and stays in good health. Quote
