Yeah, it is Hartnell, I was trying to figure out who that was. Cory Perry in the front in the white tee. What is this picture of?

It was from that Trending Buffalo article - not sure where it was taken. I'll buy the lockout press conference explanation.

It isn't just St. Louis fans pointing fingers at Miller's goal tending in the playoffs as a big factor in the series loss. Another article from ESPN - this one is an analysis of the Chicago/St Louis series, and the author, Scott Powers, states his number one observation is that Corey Crawford outplayed Ryan Miller, and that may have been the difference in the series. Crawford's SVG% in the 4 games Chicago won was .955, whereas in those same 4 games, Miller's was only .887.

I added it up - we can talk about poor St. Louis offense but.... St. Louis outshot Chicago by 215 to 186 shots on goal, or 16% more shots in the series . In that last game, St Louis was superior in almost every stat except goals!

Shots - 36 to 27 in favor of St. Louis

PIM - Chicago with 12 vs 6 for St. Louis

Hits - 43 to 22

Giveways - fewer at 5 vs 7

Takeaways - 5 vs 2

Faceoffs won - the only stat St. Louis was worse in, just barely - 34 to 35.

ESPN writer may have a point - at least in Game 6, perhaps the big difference WAS elite goal-tending by Crawford?

1. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford outplayed Blues goaltender Ryan Miller, and that may have been the difference in the series. These teams were so even that only one shot attempt separated them in 5-on-5 situations with the game tied or within a goal throughout the entire series, according to extraskater.com. The Blackhawks had 235 shot attempts and the Blues had 234. What it came down to was Crawford stepped up. After allowing eight goals in the first two games, Crawford gave up just six over the last four games. He also stopped 126 of 132 shots for a .955 save percentage in the span. Miller gave up 13 goals and stopped 102 of 115 shots for a .887 save percentage in the final four games.

They played him 9 games in his first 18 days there....and 26 in 57 days.....

He was doomed.

I don't think he helps the Sabres, but a SMART team will convince him to play 50-55 games and have a strong #2. It's amazing how people mismanage him. He probably only has 2 or 3 years left in the tank though.

I guess that analytics service Hitchcock has wired into the bench doesn't teach him that it's not a great idea to have your goalie looking like a Kenyan marathon runner heading into the playoffs. At least Lindy has company......

Jsix, every time you link to an espn hockey article I murder a bunch of kittens and puppies.

haha!!! I usually never read articles at ESPN's website - I go there for checking schedules, scores, and the box score for games. But there were several headlines at ESPN hockey about Miller's deficiencies, and that he's not good for the Blues. As if the Blues fans weren't already wound up enough against Miller, I'm sure that doesn't help the situation.

I saw that, but blaming Miller exclusively seems a bit lazy to me. This is a flawed team.

Flawed enough to miss the playoffs next year? Because the Sabres could always use one more chance in the lottery.

Say what you will about ESPN's hockey coverage, but at least their site is usable. NHL.com looks like it was designed by cavemen randomly slamming rocks on a keyboard.

Man, Ryan Miller isn't helping his case in St. Louis with a quote like this

http://www.stlouisga...quote-mr-miller

Smacks of apathy and "oh well, these things happen" at least on the surface, and maybe a dose of his wife's priorities are more important than hockey thrown in?

So now he can go to his wife's sister's wedding. I seem to recall an awful lot of complaining by fans about how Miller's California girlfriend (now wife) was adversely affecting his game play.

Maybe the wife had already said something chidingly to him - "Oh great, you're in the playoffs - now we can't go to my sister's wedding" ? ;)

Miller comes off as a pretty big douchebag at times in interviews. I am happy to be rid of that.

Between the Eeyore-like sadness and the vocal fry, yes, he can be annoying in interviews.

I don't blame Miller one bit for what happened in St. Louis. When you've got two of the best players in the world shooting on you in a series that featured six games and several overtimes, you're going to let some in. The difference in the series was that St. Louis's offense only mustered 6 goals in the last four games of the series, and scored more than two in a game only once during those games. It's easy to blame the goalie but when an overtime game comes down to a Toews breakaway (and by breakaway I mean like a 20' clear cut breakaway) I'm taking Toews almost every single time, regardless of who the goalie is.

Yes I am defending Miller because he is a Sabre. If another goalie was taking this kind of criticism, I probably wouldn't take the time to comment. But it's laughable to me that Blues fans want him gone and/or blame the entire series on him. Tarasenko stepped up and scored 4 goals in the series. Oshie managed two. Nobody else scored more than one, including Backes, Perron, Roy scoring zero. IDK. Don't get me wrong, Miller was not outstanding by any means, but I don't think he deserves the blame he's getting.

That said I don't want him back. That ship has sailed, I would not even reach out to him this summer. I wish him the best and I hope he re-signs with the Blues and gets some scoring help next post season on his way to a Stanley Cup.

Good post.

Just to be clear,

No apologies. Miller wasn't good enough. He killed his market value.

I only look at it in a diagnostic way. Miller was caught between styles. The Sharp goal yesterday was particularly bothersome.

You could tell his instinct was to challenge...he pulls back...and then tries a pokey. Man alive, that was ugly.

All in all though it was pretty clear to me that he was coached to stay back in net.

Corey Hirsch had Miller breathing out of his eyeballs to no avail.

I thought that was the only goal in game 6 for which he was at fault. But it looked bad -- bad enough so that it probably literally cost him millions of dollars.

I don't think you can completely absolve Miller of blame, but you're absolutely right that it isn't all on him. The Blues top-6, for the second year in a row, showed they don't have enough offensive ability to produce against elite teams.

Yes indeedly.

This in a nutshell is why they should've traded for Vanek, not Miller.

So dudacek's prediction was right but I was right on what was best for the Blues.

So WTH did my fantasy team stink this year?

A good strong #2 can do wonders for the constitution.

And their video streaming software is a crime against humanity. Should we worry that our videos load 4 times slower than youtube videos of the same resolution? Should we put options in to change the resolution? Should it be usable at all by people with a slow internet connection? Eh... nah.

I really thought Miller was going to be the Blues missing link.

But they never should have traded for him if they weren't going to let him play his game.

Oh well, at least we'll get keep our second rounders.

Funny part about the link is that there are multiple comments to the effect of "Well, at least we got rid of Stewart."

I know Miller was trying to make a joke but he just sounded like an a-hole. Not great, Ryan.

LOL! I wished I'd saved the link - but I was reading some sports article (might have been one of the St. Louis papers or news stations) that referred to Miller as the "Emo/Sad goalie" lmao!!!!!
