Eleven Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Just saw this reply, and hey, It's wishful thinking! that Jersey seemed to be an absolute flop from a marketing and sales standpoint. Went to a couple games where the sabres wore them in the game and i think there were more of em on the ice than in the crowd itself. That being said i think my prediction is looking pretty good right now on all other fronts Aren't they required to keep it around for a second year? Quote

BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Aren't they required to keep it around for a second year? Is that some league requirement? Seems a bit odd. Quote
Taro T Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Is that some league requirement? Seems a bit odd. Though the league seems like it wants unis changing weekly, they do at least profess to want some stability. Though they allow so many exceptions to the rules, the rules don't seem to matter much. nfreeman Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 OK, I think I'm in under the wire (but no problem if too late). - Sabres stay at #2 and draft Reinhart. They keep him up for the 9-game look but send him back to juniors after the 9th game. - Sabres trade Pysyk and 2 second-rounders tomorrow for a first-rounder in the mid-teens and draft another forward. - Sabres are not in the mix on any top UFAs but sign veteran character guys at center and defense. - It gets ugly again between Colorado and O'Reilly and Murray swoops in and makes sure he gets the prize. Ehrhoff, Hodgson, STL's #1 next year and the Sabres' #2 next year. - Ennis gets a 4- or 5-year contract. - Myers is not traded and gets a letter at the end of training camp. - The Sabres do not bring in a veteran goalie and go into the season with Neuvirth and Enroth fighting it out for the #1 slot. - Nolan hires as an assistant a former Sabre from his '90s coaching days (this was Dudacek's call but I'm deploying it in my list). - The Sabres do not make any trades that are built around salary cap relief for another team (and there are 1 or fewer such trades in the entire NHL, as the rising cap obviates the supposed need for cap-strapped teams to bribe other teams to take their bad contracts away). - The Sabres are not in the mix on Spezza. That's all. Quote
thewookie1 Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) So far so good :) - Leino bought out + - Buffalo drafts Reinhart + - Ott resigns with Buffalo - Morrow joins the Sabres - Moulson and Callahan offered contracts, 1 signs + - Tallinder is the only D UFA/RFA to rejoin the Sabres - McBain's rights are dealt in a bigger trade - - Girgs will gain an A - Ott gets the C back - Isles defer + - Blues are eliminated in the 1st round by Chicago + - Myers, Ennis, and Foligno stay - Ennis/Hodgson have trade rumors circulate but nothing happens Next Year -Briere signs a 1/2 year contract then retires a Sabre Edited July 1, 2014 by thewookie1 Quote
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 Sabres Draft Bennett and Webster Spays a Puppy...... Quote
LastPommerFan Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 - Draft Reinhart @ 2 - Trade back in at 22 with Pittsburgh, Draft Jakub Vrana - Kaleta comes back up from his punishment for the start of next season - Trade one of Pysyk, Risto, Zadarov, McCabe for a teams top prospect @ wing. - average goals/season for the roster on opening day next year will be more than 20% less than this past season's opening day roster. Quote
LastPommerFan Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 ^Pittsburgh trade will involve Paul Martin Quote
tom webster Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 Sabres draft both Sams Major differences on defense Tallinder, McBane, out, Zadorov Risto, Ruweedal in Ehrhoff bought out. If you don't, in 2019 you may need to choose between your Norris winning Zadorov, Smythe winning Bennett, and Vesna winning Ullmark, because you won't be able to afford all 3. For forwards, Hodgson out, two of Moulson, Calahan, and Steve Ott in As for this prize, I will need to wait for the 2019 Conn Smythe award The only who called the buy out Quote
rakish Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 I still really need Hodgson out, and Moulson and Ott in, to win a prize Quote
Eleven Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 I still really need Hodgson out, and Moulson and Ott in, to win a prize This is an honest man. Quote
drnkirishone Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 This is an honest man. so when is the running him out of town meeting? Quote
Taro T Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Was about to say to ask Deluca, 'cause if he isn't running the meeting, he's at least in charge of refreshments but then I realized you were referring to Rakish rather than Hodgson. So to quote Emily Lutella, nevermind. Quote
tom webster Posted August 5, 2014 Author Report Posted August 5, 2014 So any consensus from the group? Is Rakish the winner by default? Any thoughts? Quote
thewookie1 Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 - Leino bought out + - Buffalo drafts Reinhart + - Ott resigns with Buffalo - (St. Louis) - Morrow joins the Sabres - (Tampa Bay) - Moulson and Callahan offered contracts, 1 signs + - Tallinder is the only D UFA/RFA to rejoin the Sabres ? - McBain's rights are dealt in a bigger trade - - Girgs will gain an A ? - Ott gets the C back - (Impossible) - Isles defer + - Blues are eliminated in the 1st round by Chicago + - Myers, Ennis, and Foligno stay ? (So far so good) - Ennis/Hodgson have trade rumors circulate but nothing happens ? Next Year -Briere signs a 1/2 year contract then retires a Sabre Quote
Hoss Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Accidentally deleted my response but it was: -Sabres draft Reinhart -Isles defer -Leino bought out -Ehrhoff bought out -Artus Irbe hired -Gionta, Moulson, Meszaros, Strachan signed -At some point in the offseason I will lie about what I previously predicted Quote
rakish Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 You nailed it Tank Thanks for being so flexible with the tickets Tom, the off season contest is a great event Quote
Hoss Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 You nailed it Tank Thanks for being so flexible with the tickets Tom, the off season contest is a great event I'm an insiderrrrrrr with sources close to the situation. The last one came from a source I trust the most. Quote

thewookie1 Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 So any consensus from the group? Is Rakish the winner by default? Any thoughts? I'd wait until opening night to decide, I don't think I'm doing to bad either. Quote
Eleven Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I'd wait until opening night to decide, I don't think I'm doing to bad either. Not that I'm the judge here (was just responding to TW), but you're right. Quote
Samson's Flow Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 -With the #2 pick, the Sabres pick Reinhart -Islanders keep 2014 pick, giving the Sabres the 2015 1st. -Blues pick does not end up being a 2014 #1 (Lose in 1st round, Do not re-sign Miller prior to draft) -Entire asst coaching staff replaced. Arthurs Irbe is new goalie coach. -Ott is re-signed in the offseason -No big name FA is brought in (i.e. no Callahan) -Leino is bought out -Sabres do not use 2nd CBO -The bottom 6 has at least 5 new players to begin the 2014 season -Only Risto and McCabe of the young defenseman play the majority of time on NHL roster. (Pysyk in AHL, Zadorov gets another tryout but does not play in NHL all season) -Grigo does not start season in NHL next year -Hodgson plays primarily wing next year -Stewart is not traded at the deadline -Stafford plays well in contract year (~40pts at deadline) and is traded for a #1 -Neuvirth is the #1a goalie and gets ~60% of the starts (Enroth is other #1b) -Sabres finish 29th overall next year. I think i'm doing pretty good. I was considering the Ehrhoff CBO, but I went against my gut figuring there is no way they bite that bullet. Quote
tom webster Posted August 7, 2014 Author Report Posted August 7, 2014 Both TBD and Wookie did well but TBD not only didn't call the buy out, he predicted against it. Some of his next season moves could come to fruition but the contest is about the off-season. As for Wookie, not sure what could happen by opening day to tilt things in his favor but I reserve the right to award a second prize if anything comes out of left field by opening day. I will be choosing my tickets in the coming days and I wanted the winner to have a chance to request a specific game. I am open to suggestions on how I can do this better next year. Quote
