tom webster Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Since changes could start happening as early as Tuesday I thought it prudent to start a little early this year. The rules are simple. Just predict what changes will or won't happen this off season. The person I judge to be closest will win two prime tickets(blue line, 20 rolls up on the aisle) to a regular season game. Past winners will tell you I do my best to accommodate the winners request. Please only enter once. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Sabres end up taking Bennett in the draft I believe Leino is bought out this year, Scott is resigned Tallinder is no longer a sabre after this season Sabres take a huge run at Callahan and get him in the offseason, Ott also comes back to buffalo to be a veteran leader, they talk with Moulson however he does not return. Sabres come to term with all of their RFA's grigo is in the AHL but sees some Nhl ice next year approx 15 games total. Stafford, Ehrhoff and Girgensons all wear letters next season for the team. The coaching staff is all replaced except for sacco, enroth and Neuvirth will be the starters. I may add more when I'm on my computer, but this is my phone entry Quote

pi2000 Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) OK, here we go. - Ville Leino will NOT be bought out, they'll keep him around to get to the cap floor. - Sabres win the lottery, picking first select Sam Reinhart - no big name free agent signings, a grizzled vet or two, but they will NOT be major players in the FA market - players NOT re-signed / tendered: Konopka, Conacher, Scott, Tallinder, McBain, Sulzer - players re-signed / tendered: Ennis, Foligno, D'Agostini, Ruhwedel, Hackett - players possibly extended: Stafford, Pysyk, Lieuwen - at least one of the following are traded: Neuvirth, Enroth, Stewart, Ehrhoff, Weber, Pysyk, Armia and any of the young D prospects - the NYI's will keep their 1st round pick this year, deferring their 1st rounder in 2015 to the Sabres (The Isles need to decided by June 1st) - STL will not make the WCF, nor will they re-sign Miller (therefore they do not give their 2014 1st rnd pick to Buffalo) - that said, if they do NOT get the NYI's first round pick this year and do NOT get STL's 1st, Tim Murray will swing a trade to get a second 1st rnd pick in 2014 - Ted Nolan will rebuild his coaching staff from the ground up (Sacco will remain) Edited April 10, 2014 by pi2000 Quote
LGR4GM Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) Sabres: Win draft lotto Take Sam Reinhart Islanders defer We make a run at Callahan but fall short Leino is bought out We bring in 1 veteran defender, tallinder leaves We resign John Scott We sign Ott in the offseason We make 1 trade in the first round of the 2014 draft (St Louis pick plus a 2nd) Conacher gets a 2yr deal Ennis and Foligno both get new RFA deals STL makes the western finals but loses (6games?) o and Zadorov makes the Sabres out of camp Edited April 15, 2014 by LGR4GM Quote
rakish Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 Sabres draft both Sams Major differences on defense Tallinder, McBane, out, Zadorov Risto, Ruweedal in Ehrhoff bought out. If you don't, in 2019 you may need to choose between your Norris winning Zadorov, Smythe winning Bennett, and Vesna winning Ullmark, because you won't be able to afford all 3. For forwards, Hodgson out, two of Moulson, Calahan, and Steve Ott in As for this prize, I will need to wait for the 2019 Conn Smythe award Quote

dudacek Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 That was me. I eventually had to decline my prize, but Webster was a class act all the way. Quote
Huckleberry Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Islanders win lotto - pick ekblad We take bennet Edmonton takes Reinhart Erhoff and Myers don't get traded Foligno does however get traded and so does Chris stewart. Mcbain gets traded for Mat Hendricks Callahan signs for 5.5 mil, and gets the "C". Girgensons gets an "A" along with Myers. Ott stays in St louis but Moulson resigns with sabres for 5 years. Leino gets bought out. Tallinder gets another one year offer. Orpik is signed on a two year deal Islanders try and get both 2015 buffalo picks by offering up Tavares. Murray declines. Not the offseason, but stafford will play like a beast and gets a contract extension in november. PS i don't need the tickets because doubt I'll make it to the game haha :D Edited May 22, 2014 by Heimdall Quote
Taro T Posted April 16, 2014 Report Posted April 16, 2014 Sabres go slightly off board and take Bennett. Isles keep pick. Blues don't make WC Final but re-sign Miller before draft. Player selected by Sabres w/ pick is someone I've never heard of. Leino bought out. Scott gone. Bunch of other scrubs punted as well. (Will guess at which closer to contest deadline.) Zadorov gets 9 game tryout. Looks very good but gets sent down. Ott re-signed. Quote

Arthurs Irbe is new goalie coach. -Ott is re-signed in the offseason -No big name FA is brought in (i.e. no Callahan) -Leino is bought out -Sabres do not use 2nd CBO -The bottom 6 has at least 5 new players to begin the 2014 season -Only Risto and McCabe of the young defenseman play the majority of time on NHL roster. dudacek Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) I was going to wait, but what the hell, I'm bored. Nolan signs a coaching staff that includes at least one tie to "The hardest working team in hockey." Randy Cunneyworth is either part of that staff, or gets the head coach gig in Rochester Islanders defer the pick Murray seriously shops number two to Edmonton and Calgary, but any potential trades fall apart if Florida takes Ekblad Sam Reinhart becomes the third-highest-drafted Sabre ever. Murray tries hard to acquire Evander Kane, but the Jets decide to trade him elsewhere. Instead, he moves one of the pieces in his Kane offer — Marcus Foligno — for a young, under-the-radar player, to the dismay of many on Sabrespace He also uses our wealth of picks to move back up into the first to take a player many Sabrespacers will think is taken too high And he dumps Jamie McBain either in a minor deal, or as a minor part in one of the above deals. Sabres bring in Callahan during the new wine-and-dine window. He seriously considers our offer, but signs elsewhere. The team decides to tell our veteran free agents to look for work elsewhere It also cuts ties to Luke Adam and Matt Hackett, but qualifies Corey Conacher Sabres sign Steve Ott and Dave Bolland to long-term deals They also ink shorter deals with Kimmo Timmonen and Brian Gionta At the press conference announcing those deals someone asks about Leino Murray replies "are you kidding me?" Tyler Ennis is signed to a bridge deal prior to training camp. Edited April 25, 2014 by dudacek Quote
wonderbread Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 Nice to see a lot of potential scenarios here. Bennett goes #2 Isles keep the pick McBain, Hank are done. Hank retires, Ennis is signed to 6 years 4 per. Conacher re-signs. Grigs doesn't make the team plays full year in rocha. No major FA's signed. Girgs gets a letter, possibly the C if Myers doesn't. Buffalo moves Ehrhoff at the draft for a 1st and a prospect. Quote
tom webster Posted May 17, 2014 Author Report Posted May 17, 2014 I guess it is time for my prediction. 1) Sabres' acquire another top 5 pick in this draft 2) Tyler Ennis is dealt 3) Leino bought out 4) Ott is signed to a contract indicative of his status as a third liner 5) A couple other veterans signed to one year deals with the idea that they will be dealt at the deadline Quote
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Way to put yourself in a hole early. Just saw this reply, and hey, It's wishful thinking! that Jersey seemed to be an absolute flop from a marketing and sales standpoint. Went to a couple games where the sabres wore them in the game and i think there were more of em on the ice than in the crowd itself. That being said i think my prediction is looking pretty good right now on all other fronts Quote
