IKnowPhysics Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Inevitable yet sad. The events about to unfold will now help carve his legacy into stone or begin to dismantle it piece by piece. He will undoubtedly be remembered in sports lore as a influential and generous man who had either wisely secured his place as a hero of Buffalo or let his empire burn as he watched from the clouds. We'll spend years talking about the greatness or folly of his posthumous wishes, but for now May he finally rest. Edited March 25, 2014 by IKnowPhysics Quote
Campy Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I think it would be classy for Terry to issue a statement. Pegula Sports Enterprises issued a statement on Ralph's passing; I'm thinking that'll probably be as close as we'll get for a while. RIP Mr.Wilson, you've meant so much to Western New York, and hopefully you can watch the Bills host one from up there someday. Not to be brash, but does anyone know the succession plan? Simply put, there isn't one. Ralph's wish was to have his estate sell the team to the highest bidder. It's been the subject of much talk for a decade. Quote

It was "widely believed" that that was the plan, but others have reported, more recently, that there appeared to be something else going on behind the scenes. For example: http://www.buffaloru...succession-plan then again, "Mr. Wilson has made it very clear that he is not going to sell the franchise while he's alive, and once he passes on, the franchise will be sold," The Buffalo News reported NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as saying in August 2012. But note, Goodell did not say sold "to the highest bidder." Edited March 25, 2014 by That Aud Smell Quote

SwampD Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Even when you know it's coming, it's still a shock. RIP Bills in L.A. by Thursday. Quote
thewookie1 Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Even when you know it's coming, it's still a shock. RIP Bills in L.A. by Thursday. I highly doubt that. No owner in his right mind would buy them with the intention of moving the team ASAP due to the 400m penalty. They may buy them with future intentions but not immediately RIP Mr. Wilson, we'll miss you Edited March 25, 2014 by thewookie1 Quote
Teen Insight Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) It makes you feel good knowing that he died living his dream. Rest in Peace, Mr. Wilson. Edited March 25, 2014 by Teen Insight Quote
Weave Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Probably underappreciated in years past. I know I took him for granted alot of the time. We can probably only hope for another owner as good as Ralph was. God Speed, Mr. Wilson. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Bills in L.A. by Thursday. Let's wait to debate this, but even if they came here: no no no no no no no. Quote

Huckleberry Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Never been an NFL fan, but after reading up on this him, this is an iconic figure that will be hard to replace. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 RIP Ralph. He certainly live and long and very successful life. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the team and its ownership. Quote

"Ultimately, however, Wilson’s estate will have the fiduciary responsibility to take roughly the best offer it can get for the franchise." http://www.buffalone...-trust-20140325 But then you get to the part where the NFL has to approve a sale, and they probably won't be jumping at an opportunity to take the team out of Buffalo... LA isn't going to happen. Period. LA will have a football team or two within three years, well before the Bills can move. Quote
phil_soisson Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Thank you, Mr. Wilson, for everything you gave us, including your service to our country in time of war. You will be remembered. Rest high on the mountain. Quote
Iron Crotch Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 "Ultimately, however, Wilson’s estate will have the fiduciary responsibility to take roughly the best offer it can get for the franchise." The estate has a financial responsibility to sell the asset for maximum return... so whether the team moves depends almost exclusively on the intentions of the highest bidder (and of course the other owners must sign-off on the plan to move if it comes to that). That is how it has always been, which is why I always got annoyed by the large number of folks who just blindly assumed the team would stay in Buffalo... it may, but it is far from assured. Quote
