This was my first thought, too. The impact on Manuel should be interesting.

No matter what happens I think the team should go into next year with three QBs - Orton, Manuel and an early (first or second round) QB. Let them compete.

I don't understand those who say this destroys any chance that EJ can still develop. I have been one of those in full support of holding off evaluating him but he has just been awful and the team deserves better. If he is the person everyone says he is, he shouldn't be ruined by the demotion. Whether he develops into anything more then a journeyman should still be undecided.

Enjoy then next 26 games. :P

Two weeks ago I could not have written about his current his futility, but I've been predicting it for months. It's really not about what he has done or will do on the field as far as evaluating him. It's about his physical ability to throw the ball and his mental decisions in the game. His lack of urgency in improving himself, as indicated in his last two post game pressers, tells me further that not only does he not have the temperament to climb the giant hill before him, he lacks the competative instinct needed to succeed in this league.

No one ever confused FSU with a basketball school.

Agreed, but not one ever confused most of its opponents with football schools. That's my point. Playing Duke and playing the San Diego Chargers are very different experiences.

Doug thinks your rules are silly.

Doug has to be in "win now" mode even though he should be developing his young QB because a new owner is coming in.

I'm really not sure what this means for him. I can't think of a recent example like this.

Absolutely. But the pre-snap read is very similar, even if the execution has to be faster after that. The football is the same size and weight as well.

None of these things are true. Not even the one about the ball!

Are you saying he's doing what is best for Doug at the expense of what is best for the organization, with no real authority currently in place to put a check on him? Sounds almost unethical. ;-)

That is exactly what I'm saying. Then again, some clipboard holding worked to the benefit of Aaron Rodgers and many others, and EJ wasn't supposed to have started last year. But I don't think that's what's motivating this move.

So all the balls he's been playing with are in that 1/8th inch zone where they don't overlap?

I don't know about all the balls he plays with, but the football in the NFL travels farther when thrown (and shorter when kicked) than the football in the NCAA. This is a very trivial distinction, though; I'm just having some fun.

Are the clipboards the same size? ????

I still say it was that halfback option pass last week.

Man, oh man.

I'm firmly in the camp of "there's no coming back from this." This move means that brass has decided that Manuel is not the franchise QB. And we presumably won't get a shot at another one until 2016.

This draft has a very good group of guys firmly in the second round. Kevin Hogan (Stanford), Connor Cook (Michigan State), Brett Hundley (UCLA) and Bryce Petty (Baylor) are all guys who came in with solid stock. Shane Carden of ECU is shooting up boards.

I'm a big fan of Hogan.

How you reckon they're gonna get a 1st round prospect in camp next year? Bring back Vince Young?

Hey, remember that new thing where teams can make draft day trades?

Well, there goes the F'n Time Machine. Now we're totally screwed.

(this is a save the season, save my job move, right?)

If anybody ever answers the question "How do I get this team to the playoffs to save my job" with "Kyle Orton," they've already lost their job as far as I'm concerned.

I have a feeling the locker room spoke on this one. There are a lot of good players on this team who want to compete every week.

This may be true, but what happens when they find out Kyle Orton is also a bad starter? Everybody just quits?

I think this is a dumb move...not because EJ's play dictates he should start, but because Orton is not a good alternative for the next 12 games. Keep in mind, Orton lost his starting job in Denver to Tim Tebow. Let me say that again: Kyle Orton lost his job to Tim Tebow. On what planet is this a good alternative? Jeremy White actually got something right this morning: this is clearly a case of Bills fans thinking "anybody else" and not putting any thought into it beyond that.

Did I mention that Orton lost his job to Tebow?

Yep, that's it for me. Time to get ready for the 2015 NHL Draft :bag:
